Don't Leave Me

Again we're left in silence.  I look over at Anne, who seems exhausted.  The strange dreams I had last night come to my mind and I begin thinking about the way my reflection had challenged me.  And then I begin thinking how the one prior to that could have been caused by my wish, which is the reason why everyone is stuck on this aircraft to hell, along with many others.  That makes me hate myself even more than I already do.

I feel the aircraft begin to lower itself.  My curiosity begins growing as I get up from my chair and make my way to one of the windows at the side of the craft.  A few other soldiers do the same.

My eyes widen at the sight of land below.  Tall mountains stretch to the sky a bit further away.  I guess we have been over land for a while.

That's when it hits me: I am only here to die.  How do the other countries plan on fighting to save us if we're... wait... we're fighting for the failing countries, so that means we're against the rest.  And we're trying to kill them?  That's what that doctor said.

Anne's word 'brainwashing' comes to my head.  I begin thinking as I stare at the landscape below.  I try to remember what has been happening.  Yes, I think.  I must 'kill the Nolegians.'

My head starts to hurt as I turn away from the window and head back to my seat.  Anne lifts up her head and looks at me.  "Mel..." she says.  "Are you ok?" I ask.  My bruised hands rub the side of my aching skull.  "My head's really hurting." she responds.  "Mine is to." I let out as I sit down.  She tries to smile.  "I can't take you seriously now... you're eye makes you look so different."

I reach for my right eye and rub it a bit.  I have totally forgotten about my eye changing colors.  "How could that just happen overnight?" Anne asks.  I look at her with this sort of puzzled facial expression, then begin thinking about the dream I had two nights ago, and the wish I made before that again.  That wish really had ruined everything.  "I have no idea." I say with a sigh.  "Turn towards me." she says in a sleepy voice.  I look straight into her eyes.  Their pale green color sticks out from her face that is surrounded by her long, blond hair.  "That's so weird..." she says.  "But actually, I like it.  Its really pretty." she says with a smile.  I look down at my feet and also try to smile.  "Thanks." I respond.

The roaring engines of the aircraft silence themselves once we touch ground.  After I couple of minutes, Master Klots stands up in front of the podium.  "Well, we've arrived in Madrade." he declares.  Someone a few seats in front of me raises their hand.  "Master Klots?" he asks.  Master Klots looks over.  "What?" he asks.  The boy clears his throat.  "Why are we out on the plains and not an airport...?" he asks.

Master Klots gives him a horrid look.  "I was about to get to that." he hisses.  I try leaning over and stretching my neck to get a view of the window from where I'm sitting.  He's right, we're out in an open field.  It must be close to noon.

"Alright, we're gonna follow that officer through the field and to a camp you'll be staying at for about a week." Master Klots declares.  "A camp?" Anne whispers.  I look at her, then continue watching Master Klots' hand gestures as he speaks.  "Forget that," I whisper back.  "I say we charge out of this field in the opposite direction and find a train to the nearest town while we still can."

Master Klots goes on about how we will continue being provided with a single meal per day while we stay at this camp over the next week or so.  "Over the next few days, we will again need to destroy six large hidden military bases held here in Madrade by the Nolegians.  Nolegia, Joplin, is actually all the way across the Resoln sea but they've apparently set up military bases large and small across the world.  Almost all countries are on Nolegia's side, so they have a plentiful amount of allies we need to deal with.  Now there will also be several soldiers from Priston and Danovak around your age at this camp, along with some Zartan men that have thankfully located these secret military bases that could be a huge threat to the Tri-Retaliators and our countries." Master Klots says.
