Just Hanging Out

I woke up the next morning to my phone buzzing- it was a call from Devan, I missed it, so I called him back.

     "What's up?" I asked him.

"Collins and I were wondering if you'd like to hang out with us today, maybe we could show you around," he said, as if they really liked hanging out with me yesterday.

"Sure, I'd love to!" I replied.

"Cool. Meet me at my front door in five minutes."

     "Will do!"

I got ready in a flash. Faster than ever. I was wearing a white and black striped crop top with black shorts, and my white converse again, with my hair in French braided pigtails (my go-to). I ate some toast, and brushed my teeth, and was out of there within five minutes.

Devan was at the door, but Collins wasn't.

     "Where's Collins?" I asked.

"Last minute he told me he can't come, he has plans he forgot about," he replied.

     "Oh, okay."

"Yeah, sorry for the late notice."

     "So where are we going?"

"Well, first I'm going to show you the best places to shop, then take you to the best restaurants ever, by the way, we aren't buying anything."

     "I figured."

"Then I will be taking you to a pretzel stand, so we can at least have pretzels."

     I giggled, then he laughed.

"Then, finally, to the beach, where we can just hang out for a little bit."

     "Sounds like fun!"

     "Yep. Lets go!"

All the shops had amazing things in them, but I told myself I can just buy everything later. Then we went to the restaurants and looked at the menus, looking at food made us hungry, so we got pretzels. They were the best I've ever had. Next we went to the beach, I didn't realize how long we were at the shops for until I realized we made it to the beach at sunset, and we left in the morning. The sunset was beautiful, though. He had a picnic blanket with him, and a picnic basket.

"There's extra food because Collins said he was going to be here, but that's okay, we don't have to eat it all," he said

"Yeah," I replied, I'm not very good at responding.

It was almost like a date, but I didn't say that out loud, that would have made things weird. It was silent, and occasionally he would look over at me like he wanted to say something, then he would just look back at the sunset. I liked the silence, though, it was nice.

"So, um, wanna play a game of twenty questions?" he asked.

     "Sure, why not," I said.

"Here, I'll go first. What's your favorite color?"

"That's a little difficult, but I would say a very light pink."

     "Hmm, interesting. Your turn."

"Hmm, how about this. What is your greatest talent?"

"Good question. I'd say art, for sure."

"Good answer," I giggled a little, not really sure why, but I couldn't help it, I was also getting lost in his beautiful, blue, ocean-y eyes.

"What's so funny? Was it something I said?"

"What? No! No, no, no, it's nothing you said, it's just, well, I'm not sure why," I giggled again, I just can't help myself sometimes. He laughed too.

"I'm happy you're our new neighbor, you're fun to be around, and a good friend, even though I've only known you for two days."

He laughed again, and so did I. We couldn't stop. We laughed for five minutes straight, I don't even know what was so funny.

"Why are we laughing again?" I asked.

"I don't even know," he said still cracking up, "I think we're a little loopy"

"Why would we be loopy?" I was still giggling.

"Maybe there's some laughing gas around?"

"I think you're really loopy for coming up with that explanation." We started laughing so hard we were practically flopping around on the ground.

After flopping all around, we finally decided to sit up, when we did we came face to face. His eyes are even more blue up close. We kinda just sat there, staring into each others eyes, when I remembered that us kissing would technically be illegal due to him being over eighteen and me being younger than eighteen, I backed up, a little too fast in my opinion.

"I-I'm sorry, I should probably head home," I ran off, I didn't know what else to do. When I got home, I got in my pajamas, and went right to bed.
