Chapter 5

I reached for my phone in my bag and called Jacob. "Where are you? And where are the staff?"

"Uh, I don't know. I am here at the big pantry."

"Okay, will go there now," I said and I walked past the operations. It was so quiet and very unusual. Was there an announcement that I wasn't aware of?

Before entering the pantry, I noticed a new curtain inside that was blocking the view from outside. "Are you going inside?" A voice from my back. I turned around. It was Isla.

"Oh, sorry, I am just wondering where is everybody and what's with the curtain?"

"Well, let me pass because I am so thirsty. Don't just stand there, girl." She said and entered the pantry.

I followed her but still wondering.

As soon as step my left foot at the entrance, I heard a loud pop sound. I was so shocked. I

It was so loud. My heart is beating so fast.

"Congratulations!!!!!" I heard people's voices. It was a little dark so I cannot see the people inside.

Suddenly the lights are turned on. Everybody was there. "How did they fit in here?" I thought.

My eyes are now fixed on a banner that says "Congratulations to our new Country Manager, Samantha Davis".

"Wh... What is this, Isla?" Her eyes are directly staring at the banner.

"Congratulations, Sam! The Board of Directors decided to give you this position, our new Country Manager." She hugged Sam and handed her a bouquet of white flowers.

"Oh my" I was not able to say more. People are around me and congratulation me. I was so overwhelmed. Tears are rolling down my cheeks and I felt a hand wiping my tears. It was Anna's.

"You deserved it more than anyone else." She whispered at my back and gave me a handkerchief and I gladly accepted it.

"Let's eat before the food gets cold." It was Jacob.

Everybody grab their share and still congratulating me.

I am the happiest woman in the world right now.

Jacob approached me with a piece of cake. "Are we still going to the new restaurant? I want some Japanese cuisine now"

"Are these not enough? There's so much food." I said while laughing and looking at his belly. She just put on a sad face. "Okay, let's go there later"

Lucy, Lyn, and Anna approached me and once again, congratulated me.

"I am so proud of you, Mine." Anna blurted and hugged me.

I was not able to move and just accepted her hug.

My eyes were at Lucy's and Lyn's. Their eyes meeting mine.

"Thank you, I really appreciate it, Anna," I said to her smiling. "I'll return your handkerchief tomorrow".

"Sorry, I was just so happy, Sam."

"It's okay. I don't mind. " It was an honest answer from me. I really don't care whatever she calls me, whether mine or bitch, that's okay.

I know that Lucy and Lyn were about to ask me about that so then I called Isla and told her that I have a prior commitment and I have to go. I said my deepest thanks to everybody and left with Jacob.
