"Run Boy Run. This world is not meant for you.
Run Boy Run. They're trying to catch you.
Run Boy Run."Paige POV
I don't know why I went along with this. The whole plan relied on getting past the two or more highly trained soldiers that blocked the exit... oh yeah... with loaded weapons.
For some stupid reason... I went along with this idiotic plan. Still, I had a chance... that was more that I thought I was going to get.
"What's your name by the way?" I asked. It's kind of funny that I'm formulation a plan with someone sent to kill me. A plan structured around my survival. And I didn't even know his name.
"Damian." His deep voice replied. That's was the sexiest name I had ever heard. He looked distracted. His chocolate eyes always peering at the clock. After three more glances, he looked down at me, his cocoa colored eyes wary. "It's time."
He circled around me and grabbed me in a vise grip from behind, his long fingers wrapping around my arms, giving me the illusion that he had a tight hold on me. He leaned down I felt his warm breath on the back of my neck... giving me chills.
"Pretend to struggle." I nodded my head and he picked me up, my feet dangling a few inches off the ground.
Showtime.
I used my legs to kick out into the air. I jerked my body left and right, my blonde hair flying. Damian began to round the corner of the women's bathroom. I momentarily stopped fighting when I saw the ginger tracker from the food court. I started to breathe heavily, he could no doubt bear my pounding heartbeat. I just hoped he thought is was from fear and not adrenaline.
Back into character, Paige.
"Let me go, you filthy BASTARD!!!" I screamed at my own mate. I resumed fighting and thrashed a bit harder. This act continued for a few moments until, all the sudden I was let go.
I dropped to the floor with a thud. My body aching. Thankfully though, I was prepared for a fight. Just as the ginger leaped for me I stood. Time slowed as I dodged him, quickly zipping around his outstretched arms.
The other soldier, the one that was shaking the old woman, ran to catch me. I was faster though, the ginger left a gap in the exit when he left his post. I ran right through it and emerged into the roaring crowd of the shopping mall.
I glanced back only to see ginger pulling out his gun. Just as he pointed it level towards my chest, Damian broke into a dead sprint after me.
My eyes widened as I began to run.
He told you about this, Paige. Remember what he said. Stay in crowds.
"Stop in the name of the King!" The ginger yelled from behind. "Damian, pull out your gun... you're right behind her what are you doing!" Ginger screamed.
To my left was a family, two adults and three kids.
"Excuse me" I said as I practically body slammed the father. He yelled some profanity but, that didn't matter. I still had three black knights after me.
Old man can wait.
Crowds, Paige. Find a crowd. There was a group of women walking towards me, completely oblivious to the man hunt not 50 yards ahead of them.
I ran through in between two of the females and effectively put space in between me and Damian.
My calves were beginning to burn, but I didn't have a choice. I haven't had a workout like this in a long time.
I knew I couldn't outrun black knights, forever. They were in much better physical shape that I currently was. I prayed that raw adrenaline would keep me going long enough to find an Exit.
An Exit. Gotta find an Exit.
After another 10 minutes of booking it through random civilians, I spotted a small neon sign above a metal door.
Exit, the sign read. I made a sharp turn and was out the door in seconds.
Damian POV
"What the hell were you doing?" Phillip yelled. It had been several minutes since Paige left the mall and he still hasn't shut up. I was sitting on a wood bench, Phillip standing above me, scolding me.
"I've never seen you run so slow in your life. You were right on her! You could have just pulled out your gun and shot her! You should have done it. She was close enough!"
"Listen, YOU were the one that let her by, I had you and Joseph block the doorway for a reaso-"
"Don't you give me that bullshit" he yelled in my face. "You practically dropped her. You stood there as I jumped to get her!" Phillip was one of my closest friends, but this was going too far.
"Remember who your speaking to, tracker. You may be my friend but-"
"Oh shut up, Damian. Do you have any idea what's going to happen when your father hears about this? Or even your brother? He would slaughter you!" He yelled.
"Don't blame me cuz' you fucked up."Joseph stood a few feet away, calmly watching our argument. I knew I could trust Phillip with my secret but I still didn't know how secure Joe's allegiance was. Besides, we were in a middle of a crowded shopping mall, anyone could hear.
"Not here..." I told him. We would book a hotel room somewhere nearby, I could tell Phillip, then go see Paige. I just couldn't crack.
"Not here? The fuck do you mean not here?" His curious expression suddenly turned serious. "Damian..." He got very quiet.
"Damian... did you screw up today... on purpose?" He whispered so low that not even Joseph would hear.
I stared at him for a long time.
Phillip buried his hands in his hair and paced, finding his own answer in my stare. He then rubbed his eyes with his knuckles before stopping to look at me.
He just looked at me strangely.
Then went back to pacing.
"Joseph... go find the rest of the guys, tell them the Rouge is gone." I told the dark haired knight. Joseph eyes us skeptically before walking off down the hallway. Phillip and I watched him go.
"Tell me you didn't, Damian..." Phillip murmured. He watched me with a steely intensity.
I put my head in hands, exhausted. "She's my mate, Phillip. I couldn't kill her. You know this... could you kill Vanessa?" Phillip had a mate. She was a sweet girl named Vanessa. He understood the pain I felt when thinking of her death.
He let out a small growl before his eyes grew wide. "Your father's gonna kill you." A pause. "What are we gonna do?"
"Phil, you don't have to do this. I would never ask you to-"
"Shut up, I'm your best friend. I'm gonna help you." I chuckled. He told me to shut up a lot. "Now, what are we gonna do?"
I sighed. "She's going to be in a hotel on the outskirts of town. I'm going to meet her at her hotel room tonight."
"When did you two plan all of this?"
"The short five minute period that we were left in the bathroom." He nodded.
Phillip sat down on the bench next to me. "You do realize that if you get caught... You will be seen as a traitor. If they don't execute you... they'll make you a Rouge and you'll spend the rest if your life in rotting in a prison cell."
"I realize that..."
"They'll kill her too." That knocked the air out if my lungs. I hadn't thought about the punishment that she would get if we were caught. I spend a long time think of my answer before telling him.
"I know that and I hate it. But, I don't have a choice, Phil. I have to see her."
"Okay...then let's go."
