Chapter Seven:
P. O. V. = Madison Newman
Twelve missed calls, all from Niall and I had no need to answer them. I didn’t want to hurt them anymore, I still remember the awkward tension we had felt when Zayn and Louis had rallied us all up for dinner. Nobody uttered a single word except when it was time to order, and knew it was because me. No, no I wasn’t going to ruin the career they’ve spent so much time and effort working for, it was inhumane.
What Makes You Beautiful started blaring from my phone suddenly and I knew it had to be Niall so I just declined it, it was easier this way. Then after realizing my mistake and seeing the collar ID I quickly called them back, “Hi Kaitlin, sorry I declined your call!” I said trying to mask all my guilt with a bogus cheeriness. Let’s just say Kaitlin was not fooled at all.
“Cut the act; now tell me, why didn’t you tell YOUR BEST FRIEND the new crowd you’ve been ditching me for was One Direction? And why didn’t you call sooner to invite me, you know I’m crazy for them!” I winced on the other line, she was mad- no furious, I mean she practically screaming into the receiver. Maybe keeping all these lies was bad thing.
“I’m sorry; just tell me how in the world you knew they were with me?” I pleaded, needing to know how this even happened. I thought we did a good job covering up our tracks, maybe I was wrong.
“Oh honey, it’s all over the news,” She replied apologetically, the fans probably thought I was a girlfriend. I knew that would be what I thought if I saw some girl with One Direction I would assume the same thing, this was not good. I knew perfectly well that fans get pretty vicious with the boys’ girlfriends. Nervously I fumbled with the remote for the TV and changed it to the first news channel. There I was in the diner with the guys; my face was hidden with a pair of rather large sunglasses and what appeared to be Liam’s shoulder, wait I don’t remember cuddling with Liam at the table.
“Who is this mystery girl who has caught the heart of One Direction? Tune in at 12:00 for a news update, this has been Cassidy Curtright with your celebrity news update!” The overly perky news anchor grinned and then the news turned to something boring like a man steeling 20,000 dollars from our town bank.
“Oh my God, Kaitlin, I’m ruined! If you knew it me its guaranteed everyone else will too! Oh, no! And what about the boys, I don’t want to ruin their career any more than I’ve already had, bye Katie I’m going to call Niall!” Not giving her anytime to reply or contradict I hung up the phone, and flipped myself on my bed. Ugh, if I had just picked Kaitlin out in contacts this would’ve never happened. Once again my phone started playing What Make You Beautiful, I really have to change my ringtone if I’m going to keep lying saying I hate their music. Carefully checking the collar ID I answered Niall’s call.
“Oh thank God, I’ve been trying to call you all morning, why did you ignore all my calls?” He practically screamed as I flinched from the receiver, what’s with everyone screaming at me? What have I done? Okay maybe I’ve done a lot, but I mean really!
“Err . . .”
“Don’t answer my question, I’m just going to say this right now: Everyone, including Uncle Si, thinks your dating Liam. That picture the waitress caught was taken at a weird angle so that it appears to be your snuggling with him; you guys have to date for the press.” Niall spoke without taking a breath; I could understand that he was hurt. I knew he really liked me and really did like him, he was a nice guy.
