Missing

Something is always missing, life is never good enough the way it is... we need to find ways to compensate for what we don't have. If you have water, you want juice. If it's cold, you long to be warm. It's just human nature, to never be able to get comfortable enough.

My family is perfect, I have a brother and sister, amazing and loving parents... but there's never enough to it. Something is missing. I know exactly what it is, but it's still missing. I'll never be able to get it, either. Our life... my life is far too complicated to be able to just get what we want.

We're in Forks, Washington. It's been quite some time since we'd last been here, but of course nothing has changed. This tiny town is just yearning for some spice, and that's where we come in. We'll be the new kids... again... which doesn't bother me all too much. I don't need to make friends and I don't want to... well, I don't want to deal with the aftermath. This town has such good and bad memories... but I guess all is well in the end, right? Even if the end is nowhere near? Is there an end at all?

"Meredith... Mer?" light floods my room as the door opens revealing my beautiful mother, Amelia. "Wake up, your siblings have been waiting." Wake up. One of the things I have that they don't. I swing my legs off of my king sized bed and quickly dress for school. Mother made me breakfast.

My siblings stare at me, eyes narrow. My eating habits disgust them... but I'm sorry if I like some rare steak and eggs in the morning. My brother often admits how jealous he is that my stomach tolerates it, he misses bacon the most. I eat at lightning speed then allow my sister to drive me to school.

"Adeline?" I question from the backseat, she hums in response, "what grade am I in?"

She sighs, "9th, Meredith." She keeps her eyes on the road, more to ignore me than to keep us safe. "I'm in 12th, and Clarence is in 10th." My brother turns to flash me a blinding smile.

Adeline, my sister, has gorgeous thick brown hair that fell in loops and waves down her back, and eyes shaped like perfect almonds. They shone like the golden sun. Her lips and face both somehow resembled a heart, making her look much more friendly than she is. She's quite tall, but not lanky. Her body fills itself out, completing every curve with grace. She often wore skirts and cute tops, but you'd never see her without high socks on- or something covering her ankles- otherwise, they'd all know.

My brothers eyes shone just as bright as hers. But Clarence had long blonde hair, when wet it landed just above his shoulders, it was usually tousled roughly creating edges around his perfect face... but lately he's kept it pulled back, it seemed to be in style. His face was sharper. Clean jaw line, wide eyes, and full lips. His wide eyes were inviting, and he was generally friendly... but we never made friends. He's even taller than Adeline, and curved with defined muscles. His typical outfit was collared shirts and khakis- covering the bit between his neck and shoulder.

Me, Meredith. I'm small, insignificant, and plain compared to my family. I was adopted... I killed my mother... well, childbirth killed her I guess. Nobody knows who or where my father is. I have green eyes, but they have lots of flecks of gold in them. My brown hair is curly and soft and has some caramel colors in it, but it's nowhere near as perfect as Adeline's. I'm not too skinny, either... just not as defined as either Adeline or Clarence. I can wear whatever I want without worrying.

I didn't pay much attention in class... I didn't need to. It was biology, which I loved, but I was unfocused, as I usually was on my first day. I continued to think about my siblings and the time I've had with them. Of course they're my best friends, they're my only friends...
