Chapter Ten: Glowing Eyes

Glowing Eyes

          "I don't understand how we got all mixed up in this..." Amelia groans, leaning against the counter in our kitchen, "we sent you there to keep you safe, and now you're all mixed up with werewolves, and the Volturi. I just don't understand."

          "It's not their fault," I say quietly, "the Volturi just kind of showed up... and my scent was there, which brought yours. It's just precaution. They won't let anything happen, okay?"

          "Just... just go somewhere else. I need to speak with your father," she sighs, shooing me away. "Stay in the house."

          I nod and go to Adeline's room. I sit on her bed and wait for her to acknowledge me and turn away from her book. "So... Jacob and Seth?"

          "Jacob is Renesmee's... boyfriend, protector, idk something. He imprinted on her, so basically he belongs to her," I shrug, "Seth is his friend, he's technically Renesmee's step uncle I think... I'm not really sure."

          "They're pretty cute..." She comments.

          "You... you're into Seth, then?" I crinkle my eyebrows and look up at her, I wanted to think it was so much more ridiculous than it should be, "he's... he's odd. We didn't get along at all until... just a couple of hours ago, actually."

          "Meredith. Just because someone is cute does not mean I'm into them." She shakes her head, laughing. "Edward is cute, and... Jasper?! He's very cute."

          I cover my ears and giggle, "Addie!" I laugh, rolling to lay down with her, "but I guess, yes, they are pretty cute." I shrug, agreeing.

          Adeline has pretty much accepted the fact that finding love isn't on her agenda. She talks alot about cute boys, but never goes farther than that. It's strange, really. We've crossed paths with many nomadic vampires, and most of the males have shown interest in Addie... but she never reciprocates.

          We lay in silence, staring at the shapes she has painted on her ceiling. Sometimes she gets bored and starts painting on anything she can. Soon, I'm sure, she'll take a white paint and just start from scratch. Many minutes pass in silence. Eventually Clarence comes in to join us.

          "So," Clarence breaks the silence, "aside from the Volturi coming after you, how was your weekend?"

          "I didn't know the Volturi was coming until this morning," I inform him, "so it was good. I made lots of new friends."

          "Tell us about them," he prompts. Adeline nods in agreement. "Their names, what you did... we've never been apart for this long."

          "Well, there's Jacob and Seth, you know. Jake is silly and protective all at once. Seth is kind of quiet, but I think he's just still mourning his sister... it's been a few years, but he's lonely now..." I sigh, realising I shouldn't have been so hard on him, "Ronnie is the pack leader, he's cool, just a bit intimidating. Quil is... bold... Harry is actually Renesmee's cousin and Seth's nephew or something, he's a big goof ball."

          "So you really did hangout with a bunch of werewolves?" Adeline gasps, "I thought you were exaggerating."

          "Nope." I answer, popping the P. "Then there's Jon and Tony, both seem cool but I didn't talk to them quite as much."

          "Is this against the law?" Clarence's voice suddenly comes from the doorway, "I mean... if the Volturi come and see that we're not one big coven, will they decide that we're still in trouble because of wolves?"
