Great Great Great
The drive to La Push beach wasn't far from the little house we'd parked at previously. Apparently it's Jacob's house, though he doesn't really live there. We parked in a little lot and I cautiously followed Nes and Jake out onto the beach, which was more rock than sand.
It was warm, and I flinched as I felt the heat of the sun on my overly exposed back. I wished to be back either in my sweater, or in the backyard. Renesmee embraced the sun, letting it soak into her skin.
"When are the guys getting here?" Nes sat on a log that acted as a bench, leaning back with her eyes still closed.
"Soon," Jacob tells her, sitting beside her and inviting me as well. I sat with them quietly. "They have a meeting at Ron's."
"You're not there?" Nes looks up at him.
"Nah, I'm not active so it doesn't involve me, really." He shrugs, glancing at me with a half smile, "Seth should be coming now, though... unless he took another nap." He rolls his eyes, laughing with Nes and I.
While waiting for the other wolf boys to show up, Nes and I take to doing our homework. Counting seashells on the beach... not all of them of course. Then finding the percentage of the ones that are broken, then of the ones that are curly, then of the broken curly ones.
We wrote down our findings in a notebook just to waste time... neither of us would have a problem remembering the silly numbers. If anything, we could really just make it up.
"Nes, Mer!" Jake jogged over to us, pulling a t-shirt over his head... why was it ever off? "The pack is coming now, it seems Seth has taken a wolf nap at my place," he laughs, "just letting you know..." he looks at me, now. He knows I'm the one who needs to prepare myself.
Sooner than expected, five overly large boys walk clumsily onto the beach. "Jacob," the biggest boy says, nodding to Jake. He must be the leader, he seemed the most mature.
Jacob nods back at him then pulls me toward them, "Meredith, this is Ronald, or Ron," he gestures to the largest one, who shakes my hand curteously. "And then this is Jon and Tony," he refers to the next two, who were shoving eachother. "Those two over there are Harry and Quil... names have been passed down generations of generations. Harry is actua--"
"HEY CUZ!" Harry was suddenly very close and engulfing Renesmee in a hug, "I've missed you tiny, very old, cousin."
"Renesmee's cousin... step cousin," he chuckles, "3rd, 4th... removed... I don't know. They're family." He throws up his arms. "All I know is he was named after his dad, who was named after Seth and Leah's dad. He's Seth's sisters grandson... am I explaining this right?"
"Don't hurt yourself Jake... I get it." I laugh. I didn't at all feel threatened like I thought I would. Instead they all felt just as laidback as Jacob, if not more. I could see why Renesmee loved visiting with them.
"This little firecracker must be Meredith..." an arm is tossed over my shoulders, "hi, I'm Quil." He winks, "you know, I've heard that fire and ice make quite the pair."
"Neither can live while the other survives, you mean?" I smile up at him innocently. He stares back dumbfounded, at a loss for words.
"Quil, no." Jacob lifts his arm off of me as if it's a poisonous snake. "Quil Ateara, my best friends great great grandson... I think."
