Miss Adeline

The weekend was painfully boring. Amelia refused to let me leave the house in case I tried to run to Renesmee's. Pathetic. If I really wanted to I could have climbed out of my bedroom window. Due to Amelia's obsessive over-protection, I was actually very excited to go to school on Monday. I was up and dressed and ready to go before Amelia even came in to wake me up, which almost never happens. I kind of like to sleep.

Adeline drove us, as usual, and I skipped happily from class to class until I got to my class with Nes. I hopped into the seat beside her and was already beaming, "guess what?" She turns and raises her eyebrows, "my parents agreed to meet your family... to keep me safe, I guess." I shrug, it didn't matter why to me.

Nes's face broke out into a smile and she grabbed my phone, I tilted my head in confusion but allowed her to continue. I didn't know what she was doing until a text from my number popped up on her phone. "I put in Carlisle's number too, so you can give it to your parents." She slid my phone back to be and I shoved it into my pocket.

"Can I have a volunteer pass out these worksheets?" the teacher roams through the desks, making eye contact with every one of us. An energetic blonde girl hops up and offers. She, too happily, places papers on everyone's desks. She made a point to smile specifically at Nes and I... making me quite uncomfortable to say the least.

I read over the worksheet then glanced up at Nes, she didn't seem bothered. We had to go to a beach, and do math based on the seashells. Apparently it's supposed to be nice this weekend, so she gave us a fun outdoorsy project. My family will obviously not be taking me to the beach this weekend, especially if it's nice. "You can come with me," Nes whispers, "Jake will bring us, don't worry."

"Oh," the teacher squeaks, "Miss De'Rose, you're new here... do you think you'll be able to get to a nearby beach this weekend?" She looked genuinely worried, it was sweet. I considered telling her no, so I could get out of doing the assignment altogether. Nes kicked my leg, hard.

"I already offered to bring her with me," Nes smiles at our teacher, then glares at me, "we'd be happy to show her around." She smiles brightly. Everyone in the class stares at us. Nes has never made friends, and suddenly some new girl shows up and we're besties? The audacity. Mrs. Jones seemed satisfied and continued talking for a little while. She ended up dismissing us early because nobody was paying attention, too busy chatting about this upcoming weekend.

"I don't want to intrude on you and Jacob..." I frown, turning to Nes as we walk along the sidewalk to sit behind our bush. She laughs. I scrunch up my face in confusion and she laughs more. "What?!"

"We don't need alone time, Mer!" she laughs, "we've had a lifetime of alone time already, you're not intruding." We sit in the grass behind our bushes. The sun wasn't out but Nes still lifted her chin as if the sun were beating on her, "besides," she continued, "I want you to meet the guys. I need a girl around." I sigh, and agree. She squeals in excitement.

"Who are the guys?" I ask, just a touch worried. I've never really met anyone... ever. Just knew people from school. Nes's family are the first people we've met in a very long time.

She laughs a little, "the pack..." she smiles at me a little nervously. "Jake and Seth, though inactive, still have a huge role with them. They're like mentors, so we spend time with them often." She sighs, seeing my discomfort, "they will be human. I promise."

We relax in silence for a while, neither of us communicating. Though, I can't be sure if she can hear what I'm thinking or not. It doesn't really matter.
