“Alexa, my feet are killing me.” Leah whines. “Can we please get back? I feel like I’m going to die from excessive walking.”

“Get your śhit together, Leah, you can’t die from ‘excessive walking’,” I say whilst making air quotes. “Plus, this is the last one we’re seeing today. If we don’t like it, we’ll go look for more again next week or the week after.”

Leah and I have spent all of yesterday looking for apartments, she was looking in the newspapers while I was searching online. We mostly looked for ones in The Upper West Side, since they’d be closest to university, but most of them were either overpriced or they just didn’t feel like home.

The next one we’re seeing is 7 minutes away from the university’s campus, which is ideal, and it has most of the specifications we’re requesting, hopefully the past 6 hours won’t go to a complete waste if we like it.

“Oh my God, Alexa, it’s perfect!” Leah squeals in my ear, literally in my ear.

I smile as wide as I can at the real-estate agent standing a few feet in front of us and turn my head to whisper in Leah’s ear. “Leah, calm down or so help me God I’ll punch your boob.”

I turn back to the chirpy real-estate agent, who interrupts my glaring towards Leah. “So, did you decide if you want it? The rent price is highly convenient for such a modern piece of art. The view is tremendous and the contemporary kitchens are mainly what these apartment complexes are known for.” She says while gesturing towards the kitchen. “If you ask me, it’s perfect for two students. And I see you’ve already grown quite attached.” She points at Leah, who’s rocking back and forth in one of the bar stools and while using the counter top as leverage.

“Leanne.” I hiss in her direction, causing her head to snap in my direction.

“Sorry.” She mouths with a guilty expression, causing me to roll my eyes and turn back to the real-estate agent.

“Uh, yes, we’ll take it. Right, Leah?” I ask whilst turning to Leah.

“Hell yeah.” She says rather enthusiastically, slightly startling the real-estate agent.

“Okay. Perfect! I’ll go fetch the paperwork right now.” She says as she makes her way out of the apartment.

I take in my surroundings, absorbing every little feature in Leah and I’s soon-to-be home. It's very simple, modern and practically made of windows; revealing a perfect view of the city. It has two bedrooms, one bathroom and a small balcony— factually perfect for Leah and me.

The real-estate agent comes back with the paperwork, I skim through the paperwork then we sign our names on the lease and Leah gives her the cheque for the first payment.

Since Leah’s mom is big in the fashion industry, she’s the editor-in-chief for Vogue, she promised to pay the first month’s lease as a reward for ‘surviving the first year in university’ as she worded it. I think it’s a very sweet gesture, since my ‘rents would just tell me to live on the streets till I can depend fully on myself.

-

Leah and I spent the rest of the day together, we went to Mel’s Burger Bar for a little while, then we walked around Central Park while we filled each other in on the latest gossip— it was actually Leah filling me in on everything while I just listened and occasionally laughed. When we got home it was a few minutes past 10pm, so we decided to watch a few episodes of American Horror Story.

“Lexy.” She said smiling and dragging the ‘y’ in the horrendous nickname she uses on special occasions.

I turn to look at her and narrow my eyes. “What is it? Spill.”

“Well,” she dragged out the word, again. “Mother dear sent me an invitation for the Burberry Fall/Winter Fashion Show next week, and I can’t go because Noel wants to take me out or something, so do you want to go instead of me? It sucks because you’d be going alone, but will you consider it?”

“Oh, and keep in mind you can’t actually say no because mom’s expecting at least one of us to show up since it took her time to get the invite.” She adds quickly.

My eyes widen at her words, I start jumping in my place on the bed with endless squeals leaving my mouth that is until I lose balance and fall flat on my butt.

“Oh my God,” I scream while getting off the floor, jumping on Leah and hugging her. “Are you serious? ‘Consider it’? What the fuçk Leah, it’s an obvious ‘yes’. Oh my God, you’re the best, your mom’s the best, and your whole bloodline’s the best. I love you more than my wardrobe right now.”

“Thanks, I’ve been told.” She jokes while brushing nonexistent dust from her shoulder. “But if you don’t take pictures, I promise to God I’ll kill you.” She pauses, “Ugh, Noel has the worst timing ever, I hate him.”

I laugh at her obvious growing feelings for Noel that she can’t seem to divulge.

I lie back on Leah’s bed and mumble, “Fuçk, I love life right now.”

-

Leah and I moved into our new apartment a few days after signing the lease.  We’ve been going back and forth from our dorm to the apartment a little over 3 times since we had so many belongings and things we wanted to take with us to the new apartment.

It’s been a week since Leah told me about the invite to the fashion show, making today the big day. I think I’ve been preparing for today so much for the past week, more than I’m probably going to prepare for my own wedding.

I bought a red, mid-thigh dress from last year’s Autumn/Winter Versace collection from an outlet; it comes tight at the chest and ideally flows from right under the chest, and I paired them with a pair of open black heels with a transparent heel.

The event starts at 6pm, it being only 5 right now, that leaves me with an hour to get fully dressed and call a cab service asking them for a cab.
