chapter two - Othello, the library and Tommy's stupid frickin' laugh

"You're not eating lunch with us today?" Kris asked.

Kris, Jesse and I walked down the hallway, Mean Girls style. It was only the second day of senior year and I was already ditching my friends.

"No I have to study Algebra I. I've been in the class for all 4 years. I really need to pass it this year" I lied through my teeth. Kris turned towards me, her long black pony tail almost hitting some freshman in the process, to give me an 'I know you're lying' look.

"Mrs. Quemal should have passed you last year. You failed by one point, right?" Jesse raised one of her thin eyebrows at me and I nodded.

"It's the second day, Mar. Just come hang out with us" Kris stopped us in front of the cafeteria.

"I-" My eyes trailed to where Ryan and Chris were walking hand-in-hand into the caf. "I really need to study. See you 8th period"

I made my way away from the caf doors and heard Jesse sigh.

"She's so obviously still in love with Chris"

I grit my teeth to stop myself from snapping at her. The topic or Chris or Ryan just made me want to scream.

The pain from our breakup subsided this summer but now all I felt was a hole in my chest. I felt empty or numb at least. I didn't know what I wanted and the only time I felt anything was when anyone of my (two) friends would mention my feelings towards Chris. And that feeling was usually anger.

I swiped my Westview ID card and Mrs. Poppet waved me into our schools small library. Westview wasn't a big as Eastview. Our library was very tiny. From the entrance you could see the librarians desk and office. There was two couches against the back wall with a large window above them. There was a door that read 'Study Hall' to the right of the couches and a large table that sat 10 people in the middle of the room. To my left there was a few rows of books.

I hiked my messenger bag higher on my shoulder and descended into the rows of books to find something to read. I decided to reread my favorite Shakespere play again, Othello.

I made my way to the large table and sat in the chair far right. I didn't want to disturb the long haired kid on the other end. I don't want to meet another kid that's terrified of me.

I read the first few pages where Iago revealed to Desdemona's father her relationship with Othello and their new marriage until I felt someone staring at me.

I looked up, fully prepared to see a scared but curious freshman but was met with bored blue eyes.

"Can I help you?" I pushed one of my loose blonde curls behind my ear.

"Just wondering why you're here and not holding a pep rally" The guys deep voice whispered. His words could have been harmless if they weren't laced in that condescending tone.

"I'm reading" I gave him a wry smile before turning back to my book.

"You know that's a play right? Not teen vogue" The kid leaned back in his chair, his dark hair falling over his face.

"Dude I don't know you. Can you leave me alone?" I rolled my baby blue eyes.

He just stared at me with a grin on his face and I sighed, turning back to my book.

Desdemona was explaining why she fell in love with Othello the next time he spoke.

"Your eyebrows are scrunched up. Do you need help reading the big words?"

"Maybe you should pay a little more attention to your book than my face. You don't wanna have to go to the nurse because you messed your pants, right?" I smirked at his shocked face.

His shock melted into a smirk and I frowned.

"You give yourself alot of credit. Stuck up cheerleaders always do. Who said I even found you attractive?"

"Your wondering eyes did" I crossed my arms over my chest for emphasis.

"Eh" He shrugged while standing up. "Nothing new. I was in Chris' contact list"

My cheeks flamed. Freshman year, Chris' locker got robbed along with his cell phone. Someone sent out a private picture of me in my bra to his entire contact list. It was extremely embarrassing. Especially since I was wearing my old Hello Kitty bra.

"Screw you asshole" I hissed but he just chuckled and made his way towards the exit.

"Okay queen bitch"

That made me crack and I pushed my chair our to follow him.

"How dare you! You don't even know the context behind that nickname!" I seethed.

"Yeah you made Chris' new girlfriend cry because you were jealous" He dragged a hand through his shoulder length black hair.

"That's the watered down version" I tried to keep up with him as he walked down the corridor.

"Yeah? Tell me your version then" He stopped and looked at me with a small smirk.

"I don't even know you" I squinted at him and leaned back.

"Tommy, nice to meet you your highness" Tommy stuck his hand out mockingly.

"Are you just going to stare at me until the bell rings or are you going to say something?" Tommy raised an eyebrow.

"I don't like you" I frowned at him.

"And I don't like stuck up cheerleaders" He shrugged.

"I'm not stuck up" I rolled my eyes.

"Anybody that rolls their eyes as much as you, is stuck up" Tommy smirked in my face.

I turned on my heel and walked away but not before I stuck my hand behind me and raised my middle finger.

"Hey princess? Might wanna return that book you stole before Mrs. Poppet goes on a manhunt for you" Tommy called after me and I stopped short.

My cheeks flamed again as I stared at the book in my hands.

All I could hear as I rushed back down the hall to the library was Tommy's stupid frickin' laugh.
