chapter seven - football, families and fruit cake

The roaring cheers of the crowd melted away as I focused on my routine. Tonight was our homecoming game and this was the performance we would have to top at the last game of the season.
Well, of our high school careers. We were seniors and this was the last homecoming game of the year. Wow... I hadn't thought about that.
One of the girls arms twitched and I almost stumbled out of her arms.
"I'm so sorry" She gasped as I recovered.
"It's fine. Just keep going" I smiled kindly but quickly.
5 minutes later we were finished and the announcer was introducing the team.
"What happened, Mar?" Jesse asked as we watched the football team burst out of the locker-room, Chris up front. I watched as he smiled brightly at everyone and gave his parents a thumbs up.
"Nothing. Just a little fumble. We're fine" I smiled.
Chris's eyes brightened as they met something in the crowd. I followed his gaze and found Ryan waving at him, wearing his jersey. I was never able to wear his jersey... Cheerleading got in the way of that cute couple stuff. Her eyes snapped to mine and I awkwardly pretended to be scanning the crowd. I took note that she was not sitting with his parents.
I guess they still don't like her, I thought happily to myself but immediately felt guilty. I shouldn't be happy about that. I want them to be happy.
"Stop staring at the hot brothers of your enemy, Mar" Kris smirked at me and I frowned. I hadn't noticed them sitting next to Ryan, but I wasn't going to tell her that. She would kill me for still wanting Chris.
"Shut up, Kris" I laughed but found myself watching Tommy and Vincent.
They weren't paying attention to the game, probably because they were more into hockey, and were engrossed in some conversation. Tommy looked like he was getting annoyed at the way his eyebrows furrowed and his mouth curled downwards. I've grown familiar with that look through the past two weeks of working with him on our theatre project.
Vincent on the other hand had a huge grin on his face, obviously taking joy in the distressed look on his younger brothers face. I giggled as Tommy pushed his brother making Vincent accidently spill his soda.
"So, which one are you into?" Jesse asked and my eyes widened.
"Neither!" I gasped. I was defiantly not romantically attracted to either of Ryan's brothers.
"Yeah, that's why you're standing there giggling to yourself like a mad woman" Kris rolled her eyes from where she stood next to Jesse.
"I hate you guys" I rolled my eyes sarcastically before turning my attention towards the game. We were winning and it was time for our next routine. "Come on girls"
5 minutes into our routine, my eyes caught onto a certain pair of brothers watching me. Well, I think Vincent was more so looking at Kris who was to my right.
As we finished, they had made there way closer to us and were standing at the gate that separated us from the crowd.
"Hey pretty ladies" Vincent greet Kris and I as we made our ways closer to them.
"Stop feeding her ego" Tommy rolled his eyes and I snorted. "Real lady like"
"You do know that this is a football game, right? Why are you wearing your hockey jersey?" I ignored his comment about my snorting.
