~Iris~

I watched as the rain splattered over the window of the car. My dad had this big pickup truck that was a sleek, shining black. It could glide through any condition with ease, and there wasn't really anything that could get in its way, kinda like my dad.

The raindrops hit hard against my window. I could hear the pitter patter sync up with my heartbeat. I could listen to the rain for hours never getting bored. It was like the world just stopped and decided that it wanted to start a new. I couldn't help but feel like I was rain. Rain was perfect in its own imperfect way. You can't stop rain, you just gotta wait it out. Though, it may never stop raining, therefore the world would never stop being imperfect.

CRACK!

The abrupt sound of a thunderclap burst through my ears and shocked my brain back to reality. My head quickly spun around to see my dad, hands on the wheel, smiling a small smile and staring straight ahead.

"What are you smiling at mister?"

"Oh nothing, nothing at all."

My head resumes its position at the window staring at the never ending droplets of water falling to the ground.

Out of all days, today had to be the one were the world decided that it was going to rain. It couldn't have picked one of the other 364 days in the year. Nope, it just had to be on my birthday.  My tenth birthday much less.

My dad smirked at me. He knew what I was thinking, he always knew what I was thinking.

"Don't worry, we'll get there soon enough."

My dad eyes still focused on the road, while mine traveled back over to the window where my thoughts were. As I kept blindly staring at the rain constantly falling, my eyelids began to grow heavy, and were soon closing over my red rubies. I didn't try to keep them open, so I just let them close and lock in complete darkness.

When my eyes closed, they moved from one scene to the next.

They moved to show me THAT day. The day that changed the course of my entire life. The scenes were running through my mind, scattered around spilling in this and, throwing images all throughout my brain.

THE SPLATTER OF BLOOD

THE UTTER CRY OF DESPAIR

THE BLOODY SCREAMS OF DEATH

I couldn't handle the immense pain brought to me in such a short while. The not knowing anything about what had happened that day but the pain.

I could feel myself starting to shake, I felt like I was beginning to become something I'm not.

All of this, whatever it is, suddenly came to a stop. I could feel myself spit back into reality.

"Iris, Iris."

My dad's large hand was resting  on my shoulder, and he was staring at me with his fatherly concerned eyes.

I awoke to look back at him.

"I-I'm Dad. Just- I'm fine."

My voice was a tad shaky. I was debating whether or not I should decided to tell him what happened. On one hand, I know he loves me and would do anything to help me. But, on the other, he tends to over react a bit when it comes to me.

I decide its better to just try and forget about the whole situation all together, and not say anything.

The truck halts to a stop and my father's big head cranks towards whats beyond the windshield.

"We're here."

I looked to see that we had stopped in an empty area so hidden by trees, it was barely noticeable. I was pretty stumped as for what we were here for. Wherever 'here' was anyways.

I stare down at the car door handle twitching to open it, but afraid of what lurks beyond the truck.

My hand finally finds its way over to the handle, as my fingers wrap around it, I pull it towards my body, and open the door. The smell of rain, and nature hits me smack in the face once I step out of the truck.

I walk back around to the end of the truck and my dad throws me a big, blue raincoat.

The anticipation was just bursting inside of me. I wanted to know what was in store for me today. I needed to know.

My father's voice breaks through the pitter patter of the raindrops smacking against the truck.

He opens the back of the trunk and then looks up at me.

"Choose one."
