End Up Here- Chapter 3

Luke's pov.

•••

"Wait, wait, I have smaller legs, I can't keep up!" A familiar voice called out as I was about to walk out the school gates.

The boys and I turned around, shocked that the beautiful, red head was jogging over to us. Calum wolf-whistled at her, making her scrunch up her face in disgust. I couldn't help but laugh, Calum has only been the cocky one out of us. It's great seeing him get rejected, well, I do feel ashame for the poor guy, but it is funny.

"What are you laughing at, idiot." She scoffed, gently punching my arm.

"Oh, nothing."

"I'm Mel, by the way." She smiles to the boys, earning a wave from each one in response, "Do you's mind if I steal Luke?"

"Take him. Now." Michael exclaimed, the boys and Melanie start laughing.

Melanie and I walked further ahead, I felt so special having her by my side, especially in front of the whole school.

"USE PROTECTION!" Calum shouted as we separated streets. A blush crept onto my cheeks, I hoped that Melanie wasn't embarrassed at his immature behaviour but she just burst into hysterics. Her laugh echoed down the streets, making people stare, but she didn't care and neither did I.

"So, what's your favourite song?" I ask, breaking the silence that had overcame us.

"I quite like that Bon Jovi song, ugh, what's it called?" She said, groaning in frustration.

"Hum or sing it to me, I might know it."

She started humming a tune which was familiar to nearly everybody.

...living on a prayer" I sang along to the tune her mouth was making.

"YES!!" She paused, "My family would sing it all the time... Especially in the car."

She looked down at the path, which was beneath our feet, she took four deep breaths before looking back up to the house ahead.

"Mel, are you okay?" I asked, aware of the fact that her shoulders had tensed up and her eyes were looking more bloodshot than before.

"Yup, this is my house here." She said said pointing at the large, white house that was a couple of yards in front of us. It was beautiful, there were bright, coloured flowers growing on bushes in front of their porch, with vines wrapping around a little white fence which was guarding the house. It was picture perfect, something you would see in a movie.

"Okay, see you tomorrow?" I ask, pulling her into a hug.

Yeah" she says and before I knew it she was gone.

--

The next day I was greeted at my locker by the boys.

Calum, jokingly grabbed me by the shoulders, "How the hell did you start talking to her." Referring to Melanie.

"I really do not know." I smile.

"All the guys want her, but everyone is saying she likes you." Ashton adds.

"Me? No way, I'm just a nerd." I laugh, blushing at the fact that she might like me.

"But she is different, she doesn't care about popularity." Michael says giving me a pat on the back.

" I guess...I have to go to the music department to get a slip to leave class for my music lesson." I groan, "Meet me at the tree at break though?"

I say my goodbyes to the boys and walked through the school campus. The music department was in another building so it was a longer walk. As I walked past the school garden I caught a glimpse of Melanie's fiery hair, I turned back to see if she was okay.

There she stood, but she wasn't alone. I felt my insides get crushed into fractions as I saw her pressed against the wall, with her lips locked onto Jason's.

I stared for a couple of seconds, feeling the pain, feeling the embarrassment, feeling like somebody was tearing me apart, so I did the first thing I could think of. I ran, I ran as fast as I could, bumping into people, knocking over bins, running as far away from her as possible.

I eventually stopped outside a run down coffee shop to catch my breath.

"Luke!" I turned to see Melanie running towards me, she was catching up. I couldn't face her. I got the picture from her, I don't need to hear the story. I don't need her.

I hurried away in the opposite direction, gasping for air as I ran down the Main Street, hearing her faint cries fading away as the distance between us got greater and greater.

"Luke! Wait!"
