Benny's POV
Dad gets out of jail in a few months. We haven't had enough money since he was put in to bail him out, but even if we had, they wouldn't let us for at least 2 months.
I'm walking towards Opal's house when I feel a tiny hand grab my arm. I look back to see my baby sister practically latched to me.
"What is it?" I ask her, picking her up.
"I wanted to go with you." Alexis says as she wraps her little arms around my neck. Her name is Alexandra, but we call her Alexis. She asked us to, so we do. None of us really know why, though.
Alexis is the girl at the beginning of the chapter. She's played by Ariana Greenblatt from "Stuck In The Middle"
I smile and carry her onto Opal's front porch. When I knock on her door, her dad answers with a warm smile.
"Come in!"
I smile and shake his hand, remembering we've never had a proper introduction.
"I'm Benjamin, Benny for short, and this is my sister Alexandra." I smile.
"Alexis!" She corrects me.
I put my loose hand in the air in mock defense. "My bad, my bad. Her name is Alexandra, but she likes Alexis for short."
"It's alright," he smiles at me, "I'm pretty sure everyone's had a nickname once or twice."
Alexis starts squirming, so I put her down.
"Is Opal home??" She looks up at her father.
"She's up in her room. You keep an eye on those kids, okay?" He gives me a playful glare, holding out his hand to Alexis.
"Okay!" She smiles, shaking his hand. "I'll keep 'em in line!"
I shake my head with a smile as we walk upstairs.
Opal's POV
I open my door to be greeted by my handsome boyfriend and his beautiful baby sister.
"Hey," I smile as I welcome them in. I push the door closed once they enter, and sit back down in my chair.
"Is your shoulder okay?" Benny asks, almost immediately.
"My shoulder is currently on Mars." I playfully say, continuing to read my book.
"On Mars?" He repeats, looking at me.
"Yep. It's on Mars." I feel a smile creeping onto my face as I look at Benny.
"Oh. Well is it okay?" He smiles back.
"It's not on Mars, it's right there!" Alexis shouts, pointing to my shoulder.
I laugh lightly, put my bookmark in my book, set it on my desk, and pull her in my lap.
"Ya got me, it never even left my body." I playfully say as I scoot over, letting Benny sit beside me. My chair isn't big, but neither are me or Benny, so we both fit.
As soon as Benny gets comfortable, Alexis sprawls our across our laps, obviously getting comfy herself.
"Comfortable?" I laugh, moving her hair so she doesn't get it caught on something.
"You took up the whole chairrrrr!" She playfully whines at us.
I smile and get up, putting her where I was sitting.
"You can take my seat, I'll sit down here." I smile as I sit beside the chair in my "relaxing" corner. It's just a corner of my room where I have a bunch of pillows, blankets, and stuffed animals made into a fort. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't slept down here a few times.
I can tell from the sweat on Benny's shirt that he's been at the sandlot, so I hand him a water out of my mini-fridge.
"Thanks." He says as he takes it with a smile.
"Benny," Alexis asks.
"Yeah?" He asks, taking a sip of his water.
"Have you sucked on Opal yet?" I feel myself blushing hard at her comment.
Benny almost chokes on his water, though, spitting some of it back up and into his lap. I'm sorry, but that was funny. He basically replayed the scene from Stranger Things when Mike saw Eleven walking through his house when his parents were home and spit his drink up.
"What do you mean by that?" He finally asks, using his shirt to wipe off his lips.
"Like, have you been all over her neck and stuff like Ceaser and his girlfriend."
"...Is there a story there?" I chuckle, raising an eyebrow.
Benny puts his water down and covers Alexis's ears playfully.
"She walked in on them having a good time a while back." He says, raising his lip a little in disgust. That earns another laugh coming from me, this time a little louder. He does the same as he uncovers her ears.
"Did Bubby say a bad word!?" She leans towards me, putting her index finger out.
"Aweeee! Bubby! That's so sweet." I smile. "And no, he didn't say a bad word."
"Good. Or I'd have to whoop him later for being a bad boy." She says is a tone a mother would usually use.
I look over to see Benny's face a little pink. Is he blushing!?
Aweeee!
They end up staying until Benny's mom, Brianne, calls them saying it's time to come home.
Benny asks Alexis if she can give us a few minutes alone, and although all you could see was the adorable little sister she was, she also had a protective side and said no. Which I also found cute.
Benny flashes me a grin that has 'I'm sorry' written all over it. I hug Alexis, and then Benny, but tighter and for a little longer, and finally I let them leave.
As I'm getting ready for bed that night, I hear my phone go off. I retrieve it from my desk and see many texts from Benny.
9:36 - Benny: Sorry about her, she can be a little bit annoying. I honestly wanted to get some time alone with you 😉 Take that the clean way please 😂
10:18 - Benny: Can I make it up to you by taking you out tomorrow afternoon after school?
10:45 - Benny: Baaaaabe
10:53 - Opal: It's okay, Benny, she wasn't annoying. To me at least 😂 I definitely wanted some time alone, though 😏 And yes, Cutie, you absolutely can take me out... to your ball game. Lol me had tooooo 😇
10:56 - Benny: You're too cute, Opal 😂 Goodnight baby girl. I love you 😘
He called me baby girl! My stomach filled with butterflies when I read the message, and I could not stop smiling.
10:57 - Opal: I love you too baby, goodnight 😘
With that, I lay down and get comfy, but it takes a little while for me to actually get to sleep.
Benny's POV
I lay awake, thinking about Opal. She's so cute, sweet, and when she gets protective of me, dang it's sexy. She's like a whole new person, too.
Every bit of that girl as my full on attention. And I may be too young to know what love is, but... I really hope that, one day, I can wake up to her beautiful smile for the rest of my life.
