Chapter #11 // Broken Hearts

Opal's POV

It's been about a week since we all played truth or dare. Since he kissed me.

Brooklynn walked in on it. She hates me more now than she ever has.

Benny kissed me. Yet she won't look at him that way. She's "just so sure" he wouldn't do that.

But what she said lingers in my mind...

Sex is a part of life.

I mean, it is but... did Benny...?

Becca's POV

Opal has been a wreck since her phone call with Benny. I can't take it.

Before I even know what I'm doing, I find myself on his front porch, banging on his door.

His older brother, something about Little Ceaser's Pizza I think, opens the door.

"Is Benny home?" I ask.

"He's up in his room, why?" He asks me.

"I need to talk to him. About Opal."

He disappears into the house, and a few seconds later, Benny's walking towards the door.

Before he can even get a word out, I slap him. Hard. Right across his face.

Shhhh! Don't tell Opal.

He goes to say something, but hesitates.

"I deserved that." He finally says.

Tears stain his cheeks. I honestly feel bad.

"Next time you pull a stupid move, you'll lose more than your dignity."

"I know I was stupid, and I honestly don't know why I let them get to me. That's never happened." He looks at me.

Ignoring him completely, I spit out, "And keep that little mess of a human you're with away from me and Opal. She's annoying as I don't know what and I won't hesitate to hurt her either."

I've never seen this side of myself. I like it.

"I try to keep her away from me as much as I can, trust me, I'll try." He sighs.

Right as I go to speak, I hear her voice. That annoying as.... MMM voice.

I used to say a lot of bad words, smoke, and even drink, but I'm trying to be a better person now.

I moved across the country. It's a new part of my life. Why not start it out great.

"You're too nice to break up with her, aren't you." I say softly. He hesitates, then nods.

Then... I did the unthinkable.

No I didn't kiss him. I'm not THAT low.

I hugged him. Tight. And catching on to the idea, he hugged back just as close.

I look up as Brooklynn stops in front of us.

"Get off my boyfriend!" He yells at me.

"Quit yelling at my girlfriend," he looks at Brooklynn.

"You... you're cheating on me!?" She spits out, obviously about to "cry".

Opal's POV

I look out the window to see Becca and Benny all over each other.

That... that hurts...

Becca never does anything like this so either Benny is everybody's dream boy, or she had some kind of plan.

I watch closely as... Brooklynn slaps my cousin.

Oh.

No.

She didn't.

Before I even know what I'm doing, I'm walking—more like stomping—towards them.

"Did you just slap my cousin?" I ask.

Honestly, I'm scared of myself.

"Yeah, I did, cuz he's cheating on me with her. Have a nice life, Rodriguez, cause I have everything I need to ruin your reputation." And she storms off.

I slowly look over to them. Becca... she's never smiled like that. She's smiling the smile I smile when Benny smiles at me.

Thinking it would be best to leave them alone, I walk back towards my house.

"Where are you going?" Benny asks.

I stop and look at him. "...The moon. Dude, I'm going home." I turn around and keep walking.

Becca deserves him more than I do. I've never seen her this happy. Not even while both of her parents were alive.

As I walk off, I hear it...

They kissed.

Benny's POV

I am the stupidest person alive, I swear. My girlfriend just broke up with me, and I could've easily went back to the girl I wanted to but... I kissed her cousin.

Why am I so stupid these days?

Becca just stares at me, a look of confusion, anger, and... happiness?

Out of nowhere, she smiles and hugs me. And... I smile and hug back.

Opal DID say that she wanted me happy and...

Benny! Man! You love Opal! You always have!

I push Becca away from me, realizing my mistake.

"I can't be with you," I say softly.

And for the second time today, I'm slapped in the face.

Yeah.

I deserved that one too.

"Don't you dare make EITHER of us your rebound." She snaps at me as she walks off.

Does she really think that I'd make her or Opal my rebound? If anything, I'd hook up with Opal just so I wouldn't have to let her go again!

God, Benny, why are you so stupid!
