This chapter has 2 names because 2 important things happen that lead to a bigger event. "The Dream" for Opal and "Dad" for Benny.
Benny's POV
Being at the doctor has always scared the living sh*t out of me, I don't know why. I guess the thought of needles digging into your skin just... no man, no.
As I sit there, waiting to be released, I can't help but to mess with my nose.
How do you even get a cast on someone's nose?
I refuse to talk until it comes off. I refuse to go anywhere, see anybody, or do anything in public until it's off.
It's only six weeks, what could happen.
I still can't believe they got together though...
I broke up with Brooklynn... FOR Opal. Because I love her. And she makes that Mateo dude her boyfriend.
She texted me a little bit ago asking if he could play with us one day, and in all honesty, he hasn't done anything to me so I can't be mad at him for no reason, so I said yes.
I told her I wouldn't be playing for a while, so he could take my place.
When I told her I broke my nose, though, it was only minutes before she was by my side again.
"Please, Benny, talk.." she would beg.
"But I'll sound funny." I'd say.
"I need to hear your voice." She looked at me, upset.
"...Maybe." I looked back at her.
They made her exit the room when they put the cast on my nose. Great... her leaving. That's just what I needed right then.
A Few Days Later...
As I enter my bedroom, I see Mateo and Opal on her front porch. He kisses her head, and leaves.
God, I hate him. And he hasn't even done anything to me!
As I lay in my empty bed, I rethink all the times Opal would lay here beside me. We'd watch our favorite movies, kiss occasionally—and I miss it... a lot.
I miss her...
Opal's POV
After Mateo drops me off at home, I walk upstairs and fall asleep immediately. He took me roller skating, like we'd do back in Georgia.
As I'm sleeping though... I have an amazing dream.
-Her Dream Begins-
It feels amazing. Whatever he's doing, it feels good. Great. Right.
"Do you like that?" He asks me.
"I love it." I smile.
"Good." He says.
While he continues whatever he's doing—which feels like heaven— all I can do is lay there—amazed—and in pleasure.
As I lay there, feeling the pleasure become more and more intense, I look at him as he comes up.
I look up to see...
Benny.
-Her Dream Ends-
I wake up with a gasp. A loud one.
I just had a dream... about Benny.
Becca's POV
I run into Opal's room. I heard her gasp, and with Brooklynn in our bad sides, we don't know what could happen.
"Whats wrong!?" I look at her. She's trying to catch her breath.
"I... I... I had a..." She stutters.
"Look, breathe, whatever it is, it can't be that bad." I say, sitting next to her.
"I had a dream about Benny..kissing all over me.." she chokes out.
WHAAAAAT!? And yes. If I'd been talking, my voice would've been very high pitched while saying that.
"Girl, doesn't everybody?" I ask. She gives me a look. That sad puppy look.
"Wrong choice of words, I'm sorry."
I say.
"It's fine. I have a boyfriend- OH MY GOD I HAD A DREAM ABOUT BENNY AND HE'S NOT MY BOYFRIEND!" She screams.
"Shhhh calm down," I say.
Benny's POV
I spend the day with my Dad. I haven't had one of these days in what seems like forever.
"Hey Dad," I say, "Did you ever love someone so much you kinda... became stupid?"
"Stupid?" He repeats.
Exactly.
"It made me do something's that didn't make sense, if that's what you're asking."
I lay my head on his arm. I've always been closer to him than Mom. After Mom walked in on me changing that time... it's been awkward.
"Why?" He finally speaks up.
I hesitate. He's never made a big deal over my love life, but... what if he thinks it's stupid.
I decide to tell him everything. And I mean all of it. I have to force myself not to cry as I do, but I know he sees I'm close, and next thing you know, I'm a little boy in his Daddy's arms. Right after he's had a bad dream.
"It's okay, Benny. Everything happens for a reason."
Those words. What if I took this path just so it could teach me a lesson? And Opal and I don't ever get back together?
At that thought, another round of sobs come out.
I never let Mom see me cry. Ceaser already worked his butt off trying to help us, I needed to stay strong for Mom. And just because Dad is back, I'll still probably act like everything's okay in front of her, so she doesn't worry.
I missed Dad... more than I'd realized. Like I'd do as a little kid, I got as close as I could to him, and I'd grip his shirt. Tight.
"I'm sorry Dad.." I choke out.
"Why are you sorry?" He asks.
"For letting you down.."
"Benny... I know you love baseball as much as I do but I won't be mad if you don't follow behind me. I'm not stopping you, but I won't be mad if you don't. Having you and your siblings with your mother was honestly the best decision I've ever made. I've never been more happy. If anything, that's the road I want you to take. Because deep down, Ceaser, you, and Alexis have made me a better person. Alexis was little when I left, yes, but every time I see one of you smile, all I can think is 'Man... that's my son or daughter right there.' So look... wether it's with Opal or not, things will work out, okay?" He looks down at me.
I nod. I go to say something, but hesitate.
"Can you sleep with me tonight..?" I ask, slowly.
"Of course I can," he says as he plants a kiss on my forehead.
