Rooftop escape
Charlie's POV
I let my eyes wander around; grasping every single feature of the playground that had changed. From the new blue baby paint on the Mary-go-round, to the new plastic swings moving as if they had come to life.
I had to admit, my vantage point gave a great view of the playground. I stood there in the thick atmosphere waiting for Blair. It was so quiet it felt as if i was the only person left on the planet.
Give up Charlie; you look like such a pussy right now.
I pushed away the thoughts that tried to reach me and focused on the little ounce of hope I had that she might come here. A gentle breeze swooped down making my hair dance along the wind's waves. I tried to keep myself busy as time flew by; kicking some rocks with my converse; a habit that I'm pretty sure that Blair still has.
As time goes on, the feeling of melancholy is still tainted in the air. I tilted my head to the ground like I had lost a tournament. A million and one things still kept swimming in my thoughts but before I could shake them out, somebody already beat me to it.
"Waiting for someone?" a voice questioned.
I glanced up to scan who was there. It was a man dressed up in gardening attire and he wore a questioning look. He had chocolate colored skin which matched with his deep eyes. I would have guessed he just turned forty. He leaned on a broomstick to support half his weight on it as he stared back at me.
I nodded robotically to the stranger.
"Better give up son, that lady ain't showin' up any time soon, you barely noticed me here since you arrived." He said with a weak smile which revealed small wrinkles on his face.
"You're right." I replied before he waddled off to continue his job.
Wait, he was there the entire time? I thought to myself.
Fishing through my black jeans, I tried to locate my cellphone to texted Travis, one of the school's hot shots that I've grown to actually like; I'll admit, today seems like a day for admitting. Travis is actually not half bad, If you cancel out the fact he is a manwhore, he has awesome taste in music and a genius in chemistry.
I wrote a simple message to him after I found my phone.
Contact : Travis
Hey man, kinda bored out of my mind here, meet me at the Mondawmin Mall?
In a split second, my phone let out a small ring which indicated that a reply had just went in.
Reply:
Sure man, I'm actually near that shitty looking playground, what was it called again?
I thought about what to respond for a moment trying to recall the name of the playground but soon gave up and just replied to the text.
Contact: Travis
Didn't know you had a thing for insulting playgrounds, what did they ever do to you? Nway, meet you near the coffee shop near it.
Travis replied with a simple 'K' to my message which I felt a slight bit of irritation. ' K'should be banned as a means of replying.
