It has been two days since she has heard from Simon after their phone call. She has given up on him being that he was probably just being polite in saying they would talk soon. Meanwhile she was getting ready to start her job at the publishing company she got a job with. It was just an entry level position but in 10 years or so she would be one of the top editors in the company. She was excited about it after 4 years of college and 2 years working at the little publishing company in Kentucky, she was finally somewhere that would put her on her way to where she wanted to be.
She was wearing her black suit pants and a white top with a black suit jacket over it, and her two inch black heel. She wanted to look professional and on television this is what everyone wore. Back home she used to wear her flowery sundresses. She was the type of girl who like to wear frilly things, but she didn't like being mistaken for that type of girl who is very girly and sweet, though she was at times she was also very mischievous and mean . She still retained her southern roots by curling her short hair in to big thick curls. Shaping her heart shaped face with them falling perfectly. She didn't wear much makeup just enough to hide whatever break out was happening that day. Other than that her fair skin was naked. Looking in the mirror one last time to make sure she looked professional. She grabbed her bag and ran out the door locking it behind her. When she noticed her neighbor doing the same. He looked at her struggling with the lock a bit and he offered her some helpful advice." Push on the door with your body when you turn the key." Doing it and it being successful she looked up to thank her knight in shining armor. "Peter?!" She said confused and a little taken off guard by his presence. His hair was shorter and he was a little taller than she thought he be, but it was him. Her ex.
He replied confused of who she was," yeah, and who are you may I ask." He asked with a questioning look upon his face trying to place her.
She answered a bit disappointed that he didn't remember her but was surprised." I'm Emmie, you called me Emma, because you were reading that book when we met." She said trying to jog his memory as let her hair down from the claw she had it up in trying to keep it out of her face and off her neck in the mid July heat.
In realization of who she was he stated loudly,"Oh Emma, the girl who ghosted me out and broke my heart. Well nice to see you. I have no hard feelings just a little hurt. You don't call, you don't write." He said obviously having hard feelings and also knowing who she was from the moment she recognized him and was planning this all out in his head.
She laughed at him so loudly," throw yourself a pity party Peter. You know they should call you that pity party Peter. You don't care about me anymore you; didn't care then. You're just hurt I left first and didn't give you a reason which left you wondering why. Well I'll give you the reason. I had a falling out with my parents and moved in with my sister. They took back my phone and it was a couple months before I could afford to get a new one and to pay for the plan. If anyone should be mad here it should be me, because you told me you would wait a long time if that ever happened. And I tried calling you. You never picked up the phone. I texted you every day for a month." She said shouting where everyone could hear.
He told a deep breath and in a calm tone said. " I said that Emma and I meant it. I did wait. And do you remember the fight we had that night about you coming to live with me or me coming there. It gave me a lot of time to think about what was said waiting for two months 12 days and 23 hours until you finally called me. We weren't meant to be it would be to difficult. And I didn't answer for you. You would have moved her, given up on your dream and would be miserable here. You are lucky I didn't pick up that phone. Now I have to go to work and I'd love to catch up with you as friends because things between us are 59 different types of over in my book. I'll see you later Emma." The way he said her name was heart melting but he wasn't interested and neither was she and she had to make that ten times more obvious then he had already made his feelings about it. That was her only thought as he walked away. Well other than how great his butt looked in suit pants and whether or not he was a good kisser?
