Chapter 14: Embrace
——————————-
9 Months Later, November 18thI contemplated telling him. I contemplated letting him in, but then I remembered. I remembered every bad thing he did to me. I remembered the hatred I saw in his eyes, I remembered the disgust. I remembered his disregard for basic human decency and his disregard for me. I wasn't going to give in. If he wanted to love me, he should have done so before. Now he can love my dead body.
I looked up at the mirror. Dark red blood dripping from my lip. My eyes were sunken in and my cheeks were hollow. I looked dead. The pills I get from Dr. Ruan give me back some of my strength but not enough to make me look normal but that's okay. That's what makeup is for.
I wiped off my lips and started my daily routine. It started 3 months ago. My sickness started getting so bad that it was showing. I spent a total of $300 on makeup a month. Everything runs out so quickly with the applying and then reapplying at least 2 times a day. Sometimes more depending on what I'm doing. It sucks, bad. I finished my routine and walked out to get ready for training. It was close to time for the fight. They were almost ready, only one more thing left for them to learn. How to unlock their full potential. I learned with my mom, that supernatural beings possess a hidden pocket that allows them to be greater than their regular selves. I'm going to teach them how to unlock it.
I approached the field where everyone was waiting.
"Hey guys," I got a series of muttered hellos and what's up's.
"Today's training is gonna take a while to master and I leave it up you guys to practice this. Okay so-" I got cut off by my own coughing fit. I turned around just in case more blood decided to spill out. It didn't. As I turned back around, I noticed the concerned eyes of my pack members and I met the frightened eyes of my sister. She gestured towards my own eyes and I wiped at them. I pulled my fingers back and the same sticky fluid that usually spills from my lips was there, running down my face. I inwardly groaned and wiped it away.
I smiled.
"Everyone calm down, my body is going through some changes and this is just regular succubus/werewolf hybrid maintenance," I saw everyone visually calm down and continued.
"Back to today's lesson. I know it sounds like utter bullshit but I promise you it's not. Today, I'm going to teach you the steps to unlocking your full potential."
As I explained everything to them, I saw some faces switch from intrigued to bewildered, from interested to bored, from worry to disbelief. The left side of my lips curved into a smile.
"Alright listen, I'm going to demonstrate," I closed my eyes, praying to the lord that I had enough energy and power to successfully pull this off. I visually relaxed, my shoulders slacked and every muscle in my body released all the tension. I stepped forward, exiting my physical body and entering into the astral plane. I allowed myself to be seen by everyone, their eyes widening. I smirked and allowed my aura to radiate from me. I saw the blue, violet, and silver tendrils surround me. I focused on my target, Mark. One of the many deltas in the pack. With just one look he was immobilized. With a squint, he was knocked out. I reigned in my aura, stepped back into my body and opened my eyes. I looked at the pack and saw that they were shocked.
"I told you it was possible," With that I started explaining the steps. It requires a lot of meditating and being in touch with your surroundings. It sounds easy but it's really not. It took me almost a month to master it but I'm a fast learner. I held a mini seminar for about 2 hours before I let them go off on their own.
"Sparring starts in an hour, be ready." I saw Eliza get up and run to me.
"You can't be fucking serious." She whisper yelled at me. The look on her face said, 'are you fucking kidding me?', the look on my face said no.
"Kayla, you can't spar."
"And why is that?"
"Are you serious? You're bleeding from your fucking eyes."
"And? I still have a pack to train, I have to get them ready otherwise, plenty more important and precious people are going to die, including me." Eliza stepped back, apprehension clear on her face.
"I know this sounds bad, but I don't care about the pack. I care about you."
"You're right Liz, it does sound bad. These people raised us and they praised you. They took us in knowing we didn't belong here and they treated us like equals. They're part of your family just as much as I am. We are not going to send them out there to their deaths just because you're afraid I'm going to push myself too hard. It's not fair to them, not after everything they've done for us. And what about their families, the ones who are too young or too old to fight? You really want to put them through that? I'm dying either way Liz, I'd rather I die with putting in all my effort than to just half ass it and let half the pack be murdered." I turned away from her and went to lie down. Today's lesson took a lot out of me and if I'm gonna lead a sparring lesson, I'm gonna need my strength.
Lying down in the Pack House guest room felt like heaven. The bed was cool and soft and the ache in my joints felt like it was melting away.
I smelled him before I saw him.
"What's wrong with you?"
"I don't know what you mean," I replied, my eyes still closed and my body turned away from him.
"I saw your eyes Kayla."
"Didn't I say I never wanted to talk to you again?" He scoffed before coming into the room.
"Maybe you should've gone to your own house then," I opened my eyes just to roll them.
"Tell me what's wrong with you."
"I already did. I told everyone during the lesson."
"You told everyone a lie."
"And how would you know that?" I said sarcastically, he's never encountered a succubus other than me.
"I did my research, nobody ever mentioned black liquid leaking out of their eyes."
"First of all, it was dark red and second of all, every succubus changes differently." I hoped the lie would be enough. I had too much hope.
"Maybe, but there should at least be one other case of this happening shouldn't there?" I groaned.
"Beta Williams, shouldn't you be practicing how to unlock your full potential? Or do you really not care what happens to your pack?"
"I do care, but I also care about what happens to you. Do you really think I've forgotten that you went missing for 2 weeks after you rejected me?"
"Mmm, kind of hard to reject someone who never wanted you in the first place."
"Stop dodging the point, Kayla."
"And what is the point Matthew?" I said his name and he shivered. I rolled my eyes.
"You're disturbing my much needed rest, please leave."
"No."
"Fine, then I'll leave." I got up and I longed for his touch. I wanted him to hold me and soothe my body but I fought it. It's just the stupid Mark, I don't really want him. I felt sparks ignite from my wrist and I looked down to see him holding it.
"Please just talk to me."
"Why would I do that?"
"Because I care and I want to help."
"I don't need your help," I tugged my hand away and left, grimacing at the light bruise that had formed.
My body is getting weaker by the minute.
