Chapter 7: Shapeshifters, Traitors, And Mothers. Oh My!
------------------------------------------
I woke up in a room that resembled a room in a hospital except it was darker and had long grey walls instead the typical white. I wasn't tied to anything but there were no doors and only one window that looked to be 10 feet high. There was a small cot which, I assumed, I had been put on. There was a bucket in the middle of the room. I had two guesses as to what it could be used for: (1)To piss in or (2) To send food. I hoped it was the latter.
"Hello?" I called out. It was utterly hopeless but I felt it was necessary. Of course, I got no reply other than the quiet chirping of crickets.
"Hello? Why have you brought me here? Who are you?" I heard nothing...again. I huffed and sat down trying to find a way out of the tower. My mind then wandered back to the day I was kidnapped. I groaned in embarrassment when I remembered I stupidly tripped and fell, bumping my head on a table. If I had been more careful, I probably could've fought my way out. I lied down on the cot, silently wishing I had never left the house. What type of being could turn into someone else? I thought about it for a minute and then it clicked. A shapeshifter. I stood up in the middle of the room.
"Hello? I know what you are! Please, tell me why you've brought me here." I heard the sliding of stone behind me and quickly turned around. A woman who looked a lot like me came into the room.
"Hi Kayla." I blinked at her weirdly.
"Uh...hello. I don't mean to be disrespectful, especially because you know, you're holding me captive but, where the hell am I and who the fuck are you?"
"Don't take that tone with your mother." The woman berated although she was smiling. I laughed and laughed and laughed. I probably looked crazy but I just couldn't believe that what seemed like 2 hours after finding about my mother, she suddenly kidnaps me and introduces herself.
"Right, and I'm the Oba of Benin." I looked at her incredulously. The woman frowned and only then did she look familiar. Her eyes were a dark purple , the same color as the purple in the eyes of my twins and myself. Her skin was a little tanner than mine. Her hair was done up in an elegant curly half up-half down hair do but that wasn't what really interested me. What encouraged me to believe the woman was that her hair was a vibrant mix of pink, blue, purple, and green. And what amazed me even more was that it was all natural. The colors reached all the way to her roots and there was no hint of dye. My heart started beating faster. My mother was standing right in front of me. Staring at me warmly, lovingly. I started to hyperventilate. What the hell is happening to my life? First my Mate rejects me, then I find out that my family isn't really my family, then I find out I have a brother, then my sister turns on me, and now I'm meeting my real mother. My mind was starting to shut off and I couldn't think or see straight.
Then I felt it slowly easing up. I could breathe normally and my heart settled down. I looked up to my mother and down to where her hand was placed on my arm. I could see an orange glow coming up from where our skin made contact. When I was fully calmed she pulled away.
"Please stay calm. I'll answer any questions you have." I just looked up at her blankly. Then I nodded and stood up to face her.
"Why did you bring me here?"
"I wanted to teach you how to be a succubus."
"If that's true, then why kidnap me?"
"I knew that if I had just walked up to you and told you all of this, you wouldn't have listened. Especially since you were upset." I nodded my head, she was right about that.
"How do you know that I am the hybrid?"
"Oh please," she laughed loudly. "Your sister doesn't have it in her. She's all pure and naive and she wouldn't last a day in the world of Succubi." I made a sound that was like a mix between a scoff and a chuckle. As much as I didn't want to admit it, she was right.
"Where am I?" I saw her smile slip little.
"You're in a tower far from the castle and far from your home."
"Why did you bring me here?"
"Honestly, I just couldn't think of anywhere else. And...I didn't want you to run away." It was a logical reason considering that just minutes before she entered I was looking for a way out.
"How did you get in and where are we? Like I know we're in a tower but where are we on the planet? Also, what about Artemis? What happened to him and why was he all beat up? And why the hell did the person kidnapping me get so rough with me and why did they look just like Artemis?" I fired off the rest of the questions that were on my mind.
"There's a hidden door that only responds to my voice and we're in Pennsylvania. As for the boy, the man I had hired to come get you was secretly working for my husband. He had beat your friend and was going to take you to my husband so he could kill you, I intercepted though. Your friend is fine and he's at home resting. He has no memory of what happened and has been completely healed. As to why he looked like the boy, that is beyond me."
"And the guy that tried to kidnap me?" My mother grimaced.
"I'd rather not talk about that. It's not one of my finest moments." I cringed, only imagining what could've transpired between the two of them.
"Will I ever get to go back home?"
"Oh sweetie, of course you will. I'm not here to keep you captive. I want only to teach you about your other half. If you wish to go back to your sister and other family after that then I will not stop you." I let out a breath of relief.
"Now then, are you ready for training?" She asked. Although it sounded like just a question, it could see she was daring me to say no. Not that I would, I actually quite liked the idea of learning about the other side of me.
I nodded, smiling widely. I was ready to become a whole new person.
