Here she was. Home. After adventure and danger and gear, she finally did it. She went back to Mystic Falls, the actual Mystic Falls, to the reality. She felt so weird, because it was exactly the same as before, when she was trapped. The same building, the same clock tower, the same sky... But this time, there were cars, and people, actual living people. She thought she was about to scream, and cry and dance. She repressed the urge to run into these people, to talk with them and observe them, standing still at her place. People shouted at her to get out because she was in the middle of the road, and she quickly left the street when a car arrived at full speed in front of her.

Now that she was back, and finally free, she had no idea where to go, who to see first. How would her friends react when they'll see her? Will they believe that she made it?

Did they care?

Her smile disappeared when she realized that to go back home, she had to do this alone, because there was no savior that succeeded to do it at her place. If her friends couldn't save her, did they still care if she get out or not?

Tears. At the idea that they just forgot her, leaving her into oblivion, and loneliness and despair. She knew it was impossible but a part of her deeply wanted her friends to realize she was back, to go to her, to prepare something for her. But it wouldn't happen, because they couldn't know, and she wasn't Elena. If she was, she would have stayed in 1994 not even for an hour.

She kept walking in Mystic Falls, lost in her thought and unconsciously heading towards the boarding house, towards the Salvatore... What will she do? What will she say? She knew, deep in her heart, that despite everything, it was only one person she first wanted to see right now.

It was Damon. It was Damon for a long time in her head and her heart now.

She wanted to know how he will react, and how he faced with the pain of losing her. If he felt any pain... She also needed to tell him what she lived after he left. She couldn't explain why she was so happy with the idea of telling him, and not anyone else, but she was. She was really looking forward to tell him, to talk to him, and to see him.

Once she arrived at the mansion, as always open with no one inside. She stayed in the living room for a few minutes, wondering what she should now that he was obviously not here. How could she make this meet something memorable for her? Her eyes stopped at the bottle of bourbon, smiling.

Stefan left after his monologue, proud of him, leaving Damon with his glass, empty.

"Not all love isn't true love and all the mess that you and I have experienced."

"Well, I hope so brother!" Damon thought, silently laughing while ordering another drink. He has been through hell sufficiently enough in that domain. Thanks to Katherine, again, again and again. He still could remember this pain he felt for so long when he thought he had lost her. With Katherine, he felt passion, and adventure, and danger, and love, it was thrilling for the human he was. He had loved her so much, at least at that time, he thought he did. But now he has Elena... Elena made him feel... well exactly the same way: passion, adventure, danger. But it was different, because it was not Katherine, it was Elena! And he was not suffering in the process... was he? Well he did also feel pain, because his brother was the one suffering in this process now.

"But I think this could turn into something even better."

Better? Better than what? Better than loving so deeply someone that it turns you into a better person, that you do things you wouldn't be able to do for her? Better than having someone understanding your deepest flows and darkest desires, but still loves you. Better than challenging this person, unconsciously hurting her, but still having her by your side. Well Damon could not imagine better than that. Because yes, he already hurt Elena, not on purpose, but he did. He hurt the people she cared about, he tried to show her he was not the better man she wanted him to be. It couldn't be better than what he had with Elena, it was already perfect.

"Oh Bonnie... so loyal"

Why was he thinking about Bonnie?

"I don't give a crap about Bonnie Bennett.."

Well... Yes, he said that too. Because he did, until 1994 happened, now he did care about her... or maybe he always kind of did? He remembered when he said that, he just wanted to see if Shane would react, help him to know where the hell Bonnie was. We can call it a strategy, even though he never said that to find back Elena...

"Wait a minute... you used me to get to Bonnie Bennett? Wow, brother, you picked the wrong vampire!"

But did she care about him now? He could more easily remember all the time they did fight, and where she did say she hated him, than the moments when they were actually good to each other, like friends. Even though she did save him from the beginning, she did for Stefan.

"Stefan, we both want to protect the people we care about. The only difference is, for you, Damon is one of them."

"Bonnie... even though she has reason to hate me, she still helps Stefan to save me."

Yep, she said it, not him. He never thanked her for that, just as he never thanked her for choosing him over herself when coming back to reality, for risking her life and sanity by staying with Kai. She didn't hesitate, for a second, and send him back. How could she do that? He remembered more than clearly, in the horror of what he lived, he didn't risk his life to save Enzo. Not only he left him over there, but he left him to burn. So yes, he had what Bonnie couldn't do as a human: he turned it off to make it easier. But yet, Bonnie did not hesitate as he did with Enzo, she saved him.

And that was their relationship. Even though, they seemed to hate each other from the beginning, they always managed to save and care and help each other... kind of.

"If you are so upset with me, why did you feed me your blood to save my life?

-Because I do stupid things Bonnie, I do things!"

So many times where Bonnie did notice that he cared about her but he did find a way to reply to something to save him. The same kind of stuff he replied to her at the dance before they tried to kill Klaus. Something that would say "I care but don't you dare talk about it". But like everyone else would say, he saved Bonnie all those time because she was Elena's friend, nothing else, like he would save Matt, or Jeremy... Or Liz...

Caroline's mother was his friend, his own friend. And he couldn't save her. And she just died, and they just buried her today. He lost one of his friends again. He suddenly had this feeling that since he lost Bonnie, he life kind of went like crap. He went back to see that Elena decided to forget him, Liz died when he was there, powerless, Kai came back to life... Was his happiness depending on Bonnie all this time?! No, it couldn't be.

"He doesn't hate her... I think he actually kind of loves her."

Lost in his thoughts, he only realized he was home when he took the phone, heading to the kitchen while trying to reach Elena, again. His mind stopped working for a while when his eyes lied on the pancakes. Pancakes. The only person that would be doing pancakes would be...

He just saw her. Fixing the pancakes like it was something so normal. She turned her head to look over at him. No... it couldn't be possible, she couldn't be...
