I woke up in the morning without Brendon next to me. This was odd because I was normally always up before him. I shrugged lightly to myself and decided I would get ready for work.
I got dressed and did my hair, then I walked downstairs to try and find Brendon. When I got down there I saw Lily standing at the bottom of the steps.
She was looking at Brendon with a worried expression as he was starring blankly at the powerless TV.
"Lily? What going on?" I asked her, hoping that she would be able to give me a full response. She turned toward me and raced into my arms.
"Daddy won't stop looking at the TV." She said with tears forming in her eyes. I looked over at Brendon and saw that he didn't look up at all.
"Brendon." I called his name hoping he would look up. He continued looking at the TV
"Brendon!" I yelled a bit louder and with more annoyance. When he didn't look up, I walked over and stood in front of the TV. He didn't say anything and his expression didn't change.
"Brendon, come on." I said walking over to him and touching his shoulder lightly.
Suddenly he grabbed my wrist harshly and pulled it off of his shoulder. I whimpered as pain was sent through my wrist. Brendon looked up at me and his face changed from being emotionless to full of worry.
"Gabby! I am so sorry. I was just, uh, thinking of a new song and you scared me. I was, um, lost in my thoughts." He said almost like he was unsure. The concern on my face must have shown because he pulled me into a tight hug.
"I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to hurt you." He cried lightly. I hugged him back, but I was just realizing why I was hugging him tight as well.
Is this a sign? He never did this when he was in the asylum before. He said he was working on a new song, but he sounded like he was coming up with these excuses on the spot.
I decided it probably wasn't a big deal and I shrugged it off. This was just Brendon being Brendon. He was just in his own world thinking about his music.
"Brendon, you need to stop worrying so much. I'm fine." I said rubbing his back lightly. I'm not going to lie, it made me a little mad when Brendon got like this. He is supposed to act like an adult, but he acts more like a kid and it makes it worse when it is in front of Lily.
He sighed and wiped the few tears that had escaped his eyes off his cheeks. His eyes were tinted pink and he looked extremely tired. It looked like he hadn't slept at all in the last few days.
I looked back at Lily and motioned for her to go up to her room. She nodded slightly and ran up without any words being said. I brought my eyes back to Brendon and sat on the opposite end of the couch. He looked down at his lap, until I spoke.
"What's wrong, Brendon?" I asked with curiosity. He turned his head so he was looking at me and he shrugged. Once again, he was acting like a stubborn child.
"C'mon, we don't keep secrets in this house." I said a little more demanding. He sighed and grazed his hand through his hair which he did often.
"Gabby, I hurt you." He said, with his voice full of sadness. I shook my head and miv d closer to him.
"No not right now. Over all. I've noticed how you have been acting the last few days. You're always out of it and it looks like you haven't slept in days." I said, frustratedly. He laughed lightly.
"I mean work. You know I have a job too and it is more stressful than yours is." I looked at him confused. None of this was adding up.
"Brendon, you just made an album. What could you possibly be stressing over?" I asked genuinely confused. He looked around as if that was helping him prove his point.
"I don't know. How about going on tour? That's pretty stressful." He said defensively. He looked at me as if I had nothing else to say, but he was wrong.
"You are always so excited to go on tour, so why stress out now?" I asked. He sighed heavily.
"Listen. You don't understand what I have to go through everyday since you aren't a celebrity. Things are difficult and that's the end of it." I got up off the couch and stood there in shock. Brendon never talked to me like that before. If he was actually stressed, it must have been bad.
"Brendon, I don't know what is going on but you better get your act together. I don't care how you do it, but I want you to be back to yourself by the time I get home from work." I said walking out of the room. Brendon didn't say anything so I figured he must have either been mad or he was just thinking.
I went to Lily's room and I knocked on her door lightly. When I opened it, I saw her sitting on her bed with a worried expression.
"Darling, what's wrong?" I asked concerned as I kneeled down so I could be more at her height.
"You and Daddy were fighting." She said with a sad pouty face. I frowned slightly and grabbed her small suitcase that sat in the corner of her room.
"I know we were, but we are fine now. We just needed to talk." I lied as I began to pack her clothes away into the bag.
"Why are you packing?" She asked curiously as she came over to watch me.
"Daddy and I are going to have some alone time to work things out, while you stay with grandpa." I said with a small smile. Little did she know I was just making sure he wasn't crazy.
"For how long?" She asked. She smiled at the fact of staying with my dad, but I knew she was upset about leaving. I knew Brendon wouldn't be happy with this idea because of his relationship with my dad, but he doesn't matter right now.
"I'm not sure yet, but you will be back I'm not time." I said zipping up her suitcase and picking her up in my free arm. She put her arms around my neck and her legs around my waist as I carried her downstairs. I texted my dad making sure everything was ok and I headed toward the door.
"Can I say bye bye to Daddy?" Lily asked while looking over to Brendon. I sighed and put her down. She ran over to him and wrapped him in a large hug. He hugged her and laughed lightly.
"Where are you going Lily?" He asked while glaring at me slightly. She opened her mouth to tell him, but I quickly interjected to make sure that he had no idea.
"It's a surprise." I said, knowing that Lily would go along with the idea if she thought it was actually a surprise. She smiled and nodded happily. Brendon laughed bitterly and stood up.
"It is?" I nodded and smiled lightly at him, knowing that I was going to figure things out.
"Yeah, it is." I said walking out the door with Lily by my side.
