8. Prom
1 week later
“HOLY COW I CAN’T BELIEVE THAT GRADUATION IS NEXT WEEK!” I squeal on my bed.
“Shut up woman! You’re making my ears bleed!” Zach yelled at me.
“Sorry! Sorry. It’s just, aren’t you excited to be finally free from high school? WE’RE FINALLY GOING TO COLLEGE!” I squealed.
“College? I’d probably take a year off first before going to college.” He said.
“Hmm… you’re right, that’s actually a good idea… TOO BAD I’LL BE A YEAR OVER YOU WHEN YOU GO TO SCHOOL! HA!” I yelled.
“Shut up, at least I’ll have you to teach me everything. Then I can learn ahead of time!” He grinned.
I smack his head up and he groans. “Really, brother?”
“What? Can’t I have a part of my life easy?”
“It still won’t be easy because you’re still going to make your own effort, even if I have to help you.”
“But at least I still have a tutor. And my tutor will be you!”
I roll my eyes.
I guess it’s alright.
“Damn. Two more days to go and we will finally be out of this hell hole.” He said.
“WOOHOOOOOOOO! YEAH!” I rejoice.
“So are you going to prom with Alex?” Zach asked me.
“Huh?”
“Prom. Mama, Papa, Uncle Max and Delilah are all wondering if he’s asked you to go to prom with him.” He said. “You know that they already approved of him the second he walked through the front door.”
I feel the heat rise up to my cheeks.
“Well…”
“No.”
“What?” I asked, confused.
“No. Don’t you dare tell me he hasn’t asked you yet. He can’t not have asked you yet!” He pointed an accusing finger at me.
“Well, surprise, surprise!” I wave my hands. “He hasn’t.”
“Are you serious?!”
“Do I look like I’m joking, dear brother?”
He sighed. “No.. no you don’t.”
“So I thought.” I said.
“But prom is tomorrow night! How can you not have a date?!” He asked, panicking.
I pointed to him. “You don’t have a date.” I point out.
“Oh, right.” He realized. “But I’m going with my friends. We’re only really in it for the fancy food.”
“Then unless Alex asks me to prom, I’ll stay here, since I never really liked going to dances.” I declared.
Zach looked at me with his mouth hanging open. “You’re alien.” He pointed out.
“So I’ve been told. Now stop bothering me so I can finish reading my book.” I flip through the book to the current page I was reading.
“But you were the one who-… never mind.” He crossed his arms under his head and made himself comfortable on his bed.
Then I chuckled before I resumed reading my book.
