I sigh deeply as I push the door behind me shut. Another long day, another fun time. I smile and take in the flat, then drop my bag on the counter and keys hung up on the rack by the door.
"Lucy?!" I call out, looking for the girl. I pass through the kitchen of our shared flat. After a bit I head down the hall for our rooms, hearing the sound of Dean Winchester calling out for Sam. I smile and push her door open, seeing heroes' and villains' posters along with pineapple decor. A head pops up from the bed.
"Welcome home, Marce."
"Thank you Lucifer." I settle on her bed as she sits up, a white tank top and sleeping shorts over a thick form. "What are you doing still dressed for sleep?"
"It's after 8, marce, I'm allowed to do this. How are the kids?"
I chuckle and run my hands through my front bangs, thinking back to the children.
"They're..better. The mama treatment is helping a lot, there's more hope in their eyes and more comfort in their postures-"
"So when will they hire a father figure?"
I blink and look at her. "What?"
She chuckles, borderline laughs, at my shocked and puzzled expression.
"When will they get a man to father those kids?! Cmon girl, you really think you'd shoulder this alone?" I shrugged and frowned.
"Lucy you know how Cupid hates me. Besides a woman's life is busy, living semi-independent." She roles her eyes and gets off the bed. While grabbing a brush for her hair, she stares at me.
"Okay fine. A topic for another time," I mumble "hopefully never.";;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
"What's bothering you?"
I blink and glance up from our dinner of Mac n cheese and pizza.
"What?"
"You're zoning out more frequently and you're getting the eye tick. What's on your mind." With her stony expression and flat tone, I can tell she's not kidding around. I sigh and lean back.
"A kid today made an odd request." She narrows her eyes and raises an eyebrow when I hesitate. "He requested a hero."
"Called it!" She hollers and leans back in her seat, smirking widely. She gets up and starts dancing about, making me smile and roll my eyes. "So how can I get ahold of Robin?" She stops and looks at me, confusion everywhere. "Robin?"
"Yes. Batman's sidekick. Robin." She drops in her seat and ponders it.
"I'm not sure. But wherever Batman is, Robin is. Maybe you could get the police to ignite the bat signal?"
I rub the back of my neck and chew on cheesy noodles.
"I dunno, that light is for important and criminal things only."
She frowns. "Isn't this important to you?" I glance up and scowl.
"Of course it is-"
"Then go to the police and request a meeting with Batman and Robin! That light is his beck'n call. It's your best and first chance."
I sigh and glance out the window, to the city that never sleeps.
"I guess it'll be worth a try." She smiles and gets up, her plate empty.
"Goody. Sleep on it okay? Tomorrow I'll expect you to do it." She walks into her room, leaving me to do the dishes. I frown at that thought and finish my meal before I get up and load the dishwasher. She does have a point, he always answers that beam of light in the sky. But would it be abuse to that thing? I scowl and rinse the suds off a mixing spoon.
It possibly is, so what other choices do I have? Maybe they have social media accounts? I could message them somehow, hopefully. I turn the water off and dry my hands, glancing up in time to see a black form swing by with a fluttering cape. I rush to the glass and watch him disappear from view, then I glance to the rooftops in hopes to see a brightly colored sidekick following close. I sigh when I see none, and turn to get ready for bed.Don't worry David, I'll make it happen. Somehow.
