I sit there watching Zoe laugh her ass off, my mood already down the drain. I grit my teeth as she rolls off the couch onto the floor, clutching her stomach.
"They- they al-ready h-hired a fa-father!! Oh m-my devil!!!" She hollers, struggling to fit words between fits of cackles. I glare at her then check the time.
"Well, while you laugh off all your weight, I'm gonna signal the bat. I expect this fit of giggles to have ended by the time I come back, missy." She tries to look offensive, but she falls into another round of bellowing laughter. I huff then grab my bag and walk out.
Batman and his sidekick only come out at night, and the police department closest to my house closes at ten. Eight o clock seems like a reasonable time to leave. I shut the door to the complex rather hard but continue walking down the sidewalk.
I met him around two today, the new hired man to help with the kids. I don't need help! Well- okay maybe I do, but I don't need a freaking father figure beside me!
I growl once i realize that it's not what I need. It's the kids who need him. I rub the back of my head as shame fills me, making my cheeks heat up. I open the door and walk up to the desk.
"Hello, may I speak with the big guy?" I smile sweetly at the clerk, who just raises his eyebrows at me.
"Do you have an appointment?" My smile wavers, and I stare at him. An appointment? At a police department?! Who the hell considers that!
"Uhm..am appointment?" I speak in a soft and sweet tone. The Guy scowls at me and nods.
"Yes you need an appointment set up." I scowl and lean over the desk, my mask snapping.
"Okay, you listen and you listen well. I need to talk to the one in control of the fucking bat signal." My tone goes harsh, dark and cold. He leans back and grinds his jaw, staring at me.
"Ma'am if you don't have an appointment I will have to ask you to leave." My ears heat up and I snarl.
"Fuck this shit." I mutter then back up several steps and bolt for the entrance.
"Hey-!" I don't wait for the rest of his words. I dash down the halls blindly, scanning the rooms. Logically, the most important thing would be the furthest from the entrance. I rush up the stairs and to the end of the hall, using the pounding steps behind me as fuel to go faster, the fear to drive me. I force the door open, starring at the man at the desk who jumped in fright.
"Sir I need you to use the bat signal!" I pant out.
"Lady!" I get forcibly tackled from behind, a soft "ompf" coming out. I cry out when I hit the ground, the weight of someone else on top of me adding onto the pressure.
"Hey hey hey! Get off her!" I sigh in relief when the weight is lifted off me.
"But sir-"
"No buts! Get out of this office now!" I look up to see the man scowl and snarl at me then turn and walk out. The other one closed the door then looked at me. I watch him as I get up and rub my chin and chest.
"Ow."
He chuckles and moves to his desk while I stand up, still holding my ribs.
"What made you run all the way up here?" I stare at him.
"A kids dream."
