'Well, we better get going. Otherwise, your mother might throw a fit', said a laughing Jacob
'My mom isn't that fierce, you know. She's just too much of a "in time" person.
'Well, I can see that you didn't inherit your mother's punctuality. But, you did inherit her beauty though', he said while playing with my hair. He loves to do that.
I just blushed. He smiled and took my hand and led me downstairs for dinner
Mom's cooking was awesome. But today she made one of my all time favourites, Hwan Tan noodles and some chicken soup and fried eggs with onions. It was a Chinese dish and I loved it so much. I hope Jacob likes Chinese food.
Just then, I heard the door being unlocked. Dad was home, oh joy. He was going to get knocked out of his shoes when he sees an unknown boy with messed up hair, who's associating with his daughter at this very moment. I can't wait to see my dad's reaction when he finds out I'm going on a date with Jacob, he'll get a cow.
'Welcome home, honey! How was work today?', my mom called from the kitchen
'It was fine, dear. What's for din-', he stopped dead at his sentence when he saw Jacob at the table.
That's when my mom came in and gave dad a quick kiss.
'Oh darling, there was so much happening today. Oh, and we have a guest', she said gesturing to Jacob.
'It's a pleasure to meet you sir', Jacob said while standing up shaking my dad's hand.
'Well, it's a pleasure to meet you to Jacob', he said while giving my mom a look which obviously meant that he wanted to know what Jacob was doing here.
'Richard, today Natalia passed out at school. Jacob over here was fast enough to be the one to break Natalia's fall', she said with a tint of pride in her voice.
Jacob blushed when my mom explained to my dad. He was such a cutie. After that, Jacob introduced himself to my dad and everything was well until we were having dinner and mom had to pop Jacob's least favourite question.
'What are your parents doing, dear?'
'Oh...umm, well. My mom works as a florist and my dad...... he works as a mechanic', he said not looking into my mom's eyes.
'Oh, that's wonderful, dear', my mom said without knowing that Jacob was having a very hard time with his family.
'Well, Mr and Mrs. Nightingale. I wanted to know if I could take Natalia out on a date this Saturday afternoon', Jacob said bravely.
'Well of course you can, dear and don't call me Mrs. Nightingale. Call me Athena', my mom said while giving me a girlish smile. My father just looked shell-shocked and didn't say anything but, 'Oh, well, as long as you bring Natalia back on time'.
I was beyond happy that I was allowed to go out with Jacob. He was really happy too. Soon after dinner, Jacob had to go home. My mom kissed him on the cheek and my dad patted him on the back. As soon as they were gone, me and Jacob had a little "alone time". 'Goodbye, I'm looking forward to dating you', I said and gave him a kiss on the cheek. He grinned madly and went home.
Boy, was I messed up, I couldn't think of anything other than Jacob. I was completely insane
I couldn't stop thinking about Jacob, I don't know why. It's so complicated, from going to completely despise to madly in love. It was like a dream. I was lying down on my bed when I heard a knock on the door.
'Natalia, sweetheart, can I come in?'
It was mom
'Yeah, sure. The door is not locked'
She came in and sat on my bed. She lay down beside me with on hand supporting her head.
'So, Natalia, I see you're very excited about your date with Jacob', she said cheekily.
'Uh, how did you know?'
'Well! Don't you go on making me feel like I'm too old to know how a teenage girl feels when she has been asked out by the man of her dreams. To be honest with you Natalia, I've always been a sucker for love stories', my mom said with a wink.
'Really! I never thought that I would hear this from you', I said shocked.
'Oh Natalia, how'd you think I married your father?', she said with an unmistakable blush.
'It all started when we were fifteen years old. He was the smartest guy in his year. As you know, I am two years younger than your father, I was very shy back then. Your grandpa would kill any guy who dared to ask me out, he was very protective of me, but for some reason he liked your father. One day, your father and I were sorted into the same group for a project, it was set for different ages, so that we could get to know our seniors. Your father was a very strict man, he took no attention to me until one day..... I was in the chemistry room and I was testing out some chemicals I have never seen before. I knew it was a bad idea, but I was an A student in Chemistry and I thought I knew everything. The chemical started boiling, and it was scary. I nearly cried when I saw that I could do nothing about it, it was uncontrollable. Then your father came in, he knew exactly what to do and he saved me from a life time of detention. He slapped me for doing something so stupid, he then regretted it and he said sorry. I was crying because the slap he gave me was very hard and my face was red. He hugged me and said that everything was going o be alright. He took me out and in a few months I started having feelings for your old man and I confessed. He was very dumbfounded at first but he smirked and kissed me. It was the most amazing feeling ever'
All I could say was 'wow', I didn't know my parents ended up together that way, it was very cliché, but as unromantic as it sounds. I was happy to know my father gave in to love. Don't get me wrong, my father was a lovable person, but sometimes he tends to have his workaholic side of him take over. As crazy as it sounds, I hoped me and Jacob ended up like them, I mean I don't want to be slapped but I wanted undying love, love that was beyond. Love that was unstoppable, OK, I think I better stop being too cliché. It's not good for me.
