His eyes stung with pain
As the tears streamed down his face
He had nothing left to gain
From his tragic fall from grace
All the empty years
And lessons left unlearned
Living with that fear
And every bridge he’d burned
That pain, it took his breath
As he invited the life of danger
Closer and closer to death
Every day the mirror, showed him a stranger
Toward the end it almost felt
He wouldn’t last another day
The cards that he’d been dealt
Made him long to fade away
One pill here, one drink there
He was drained before too long
No one really cared
No one told him it was wrong
It took almost dying, to make him see
Everything that he could lose
So he set his fears free
Looking at his son, it was easy to choose.
