This life has been longer than I had ever wished it to be.
Lonely and cold as I wandered through,
this life where you have been absent from me.
My love, I wish I could’ve held you…
My arms as your haven on those darkest nights,
when all you wanted was safety.
I wish I could’ve kept you in my sights,
Oh, how I wish you could’ve loved me.
Now the years are draining my youth,
and time, well, it passes me by.
This wrinkled face, my only truth…
that I shall soon die.
I’ll be there at that gate,
waiting, with love in my heart.
If only I’m not too late,
and you didn’t already get a head start.
