She sat by his bed and closed her weary eyes
There wasn’t any time left
She knew it was time to say goodbye
But she could only hold her breath
How could she live with him gone
Her heart filled with so many fears
How would she go on
And carry through the empty years
Then he grabbed her hand
And asked her to understand
He said:
You got me through this life
Made me as strong as I am
And when you became my wife
You made me a happy man
It won’t be long, we’ll be together again
What’s an eternity without my best friend
A smile spread across her face
And she wiped away her tears
Though she could already feel that empty space
As the end neared
It was so hard to tell him goodbye
So hard to not show her pain
All she wanted to do was cry
To be back where they met, on that train
She just wanted to rewind
And go back to a simpler time
And she said:
You taught me to stand
When I wanted to fall
Now you want to take away the man
That made me this tall
Too, too long I’ll wait to be together again
I don’t want to lose my best friend
He slipped away with a tear in his eye
And she never got to tell him goodbye
But she knows it won’t be long
Yeah they say her method’s wrong
But she can’t wait to see him again
She can’t live without her best friend.
