There it was. Beverly stood staring at the school. She couldn't believe summer had ended. She then felt someone's hand intertwine with hers. "It'll be f-fine. You have the Losers this year. What could go wrong?" He grinned widely but Beverly just stood in shock at the lack of stuttering. "W-what is it?"
"Nothing, just... you're right. This year will be different."
Grinning like mad, they walked behind the rest of Losers to go pick up their classes. Most of them were together. Bill and Bev actually had 7 of the 8 classes together. Sadly 4 of them had Ben. Not that he's some awful person. Just it would be awkward.
The other Losers were also in some of the their classes. 'This should be great. No Henry and I have my friends.' As if on cue, Greta walked up to all of them. "Hey slut. Find some new guy to please you for the week? Maybe a month?" Laughing, they walked off.
Beverly felt something in her snap a little. 'Her and Bill were different. Not that I have any experience to compare it to. But Greta is wrong.' Bill took her hand and they headed to first period.
Picking seats next to each other for math, Beverly was still obviously upset. Doodling on the desk. 'She is really cute when she's concentrating.' Bill thought.
"Is this seat taken?" Bill looked up to see a girl asking about the seat on his right.
"N-no n-not at all. B-be my guest." He gestured towards it and she giggled and sat down. "I'm Emily." She stuck out her hand. "B-bill. S-sorry about the s-stutter."
"Oh no, it's fine. It doesn't upset me at all." She smiled and began taking out paper and a pencil.
Beverly watched it all and was wondering why Bill was so nervous around Emily. He wasn't stuttering that much around her recently. Was Emily prettier? All these thought floated around her head before Bill snapped her back to the present. "Hey Beverly. Emily needs some paper. D-do you have any to spare?"
"No, I don't have any paper for Emily." Beverly rose her hand to go to the bathroom and pulled out a cigarette, it was the one from when Bill and her shared. She was overthinking this wasn't she? 'Probably because he's talking to someone new.'
The day seemed to drag on forever. The other classes were fine as Emily wasn't in any and all of them, she still sat next to Bill. As the final bell rang, her and Bill headed for the doors.
Meeting up with Richie and Eddie on the way out. "How was your guys first day?" Eddie said a little too excitedly.
"It w-was okay. And y-yours?" Bill's stutter was back. "Great! Do you guys want to go to the quarry?" A new voice chimed in after.
"Only if Richie promises no more drowning." Turning, they all saw Stanley. "Richie may not, but Eduardo cannot make any promises." Richie said in a Spanish accent. Stanley rolled his eyes.
"Bill and I will be there. Right?" She looked over at Bill who nodded but was waving back at Emily. They exited the building and Beverly stopped on the sidewalk. All the Losers except Bill kept walking. "Are you okay?" He seemed concerned. And again, no stutter.
"What do you think of Emily?" Beverly couldn't believe she was asking this. After ONE day. She kicked the ground with her foot. "She seems okay, I guess. I d-don't know her though."
"You seem really interested in her. And I couldn't help but notice that you stutter a lot around her..." Bill then laughed. Beverly was getting angry, 'what was so funny?'
"Beverly I think you are noticing the wrong things. It's not that I stutter around her. It's I don't stutter around you. I've noticed it too. I think it's when I'm comfortable and that's mostly with you." She became embarrassed that she was so blind to that but decided to tease him to end her embarrassment.
"You seem to stutter a lot in bed..." It was now his turn to be embarrassed. All red faced and wide eyed. "T-that's not... the same thing." His voice got quiet on the second part. "I'm sorry Bill. I shouldn't have assumed things." She grabbed his hand and they continued walking. "You mean, you shouldn't have gotten jealous?" She smirked and she playfully shoved him.
She felt something pressing against her butt and her hand flew to it to find his. "Bill!" She didn't mind, just it was very sudden. "C-calm down. J-just getting these." He raised his hand to show her pack of cigarettes. "Things get rough sometimes." He said in a low voice. She nodded but quickly added, "Not in front of them." She gestured to the Losers. "Obviously, our little secret." He winked at her. Who knew Bill could be like this to her.
When all the Losers reached the quarry, they noticed Stanley missing but right then he showed up with Mike. "Hey guys!" They all greeted him. Bill then spoke up. "I dropped my house key somewhere. I'll be over in a second. Beverly, can you help me?"
Beverly followed Bill about 200 feet away from the others and they slumped against a tree. Pulling out the pack, he slipped one into his mouth. Waiting for her to light it for him she got very close. "You know those are bad for you, right?" He laughed a little and her heard the light click as it lit the stick. "Well then Bev. We are both just doomed for short lives." He puffed it out and handed it to her as she pulled and closed her eyes. "I still see him. All the time." She said it very softly but Bill still heard.
He took the cigarette from her hand and before pulling, added, "It. Bev. That thing is no man."
"I mean my dad..." The cigarette dropped from his mouth and he scrambled to get it and reposition himself. "Right, of c-course. Sorry. No offense. He was rather c-creepy." He didn't know what to say. "I think you know what kind of person he was. But he was worse then you could be thinking of right now... I can't get that to go away." He held her in his arms and said a few comforting things into her ear. They soon made their way back to the Losers.
When they got back, everyone was already undressed so they began. "Hey Bill? Did you get all the poison out?" Bill looked questioningly at Richie, who decided to explain. "Obviously you had to suck some poison out right?" He pointed at Beverly and she looked down and remembered the marks all over her neck and then Richie pointed at Bill, who had them all over his.
Their faces reddened quick as the other 4 laughed hysterically. Beverly and Bill nodded at each other as they walked over and lifted Richie. "Beep Beep Richie!" They both said and tossed him over the edge. Now it was their turn to laugh. "Richie!" Eddie yelled and quickly jumped off. No one has ever seen him jump with such confidence. Or be worried about Richie.
Stanley and Beverly jumped together, then Mike. Bill was the last and did a flip off. When he re-emerged he heard Richie commentating. "And there goes Mr. Denbrough being the show off as always. How many flips did you do? You must be working out. Maybe Beverly helps with that, OHHHHH!" He raised his hand to Stanley who lazily gave him a high five, but couldn't help to laugh.
Beverly swam over to Bill. "Don't worry, Bill. I thought it looked hot..." she whispered the last part in his ear. Her hot breath causing him to get goosebumps.
After an hour or two of swimming around the quarry, they all got out to dry off and Beverly rested her head on Bill's shoulder.
