"Stand down, Eva Peron!" Cheryl yelled.
"Reggie, I'm not doing this." I stopped at the top of the stairs.
"Then don't, go to class. I'll meet you there." Reggie said before continuing down the stairs.
I locked eyes with Sweet Pea for a moment before turning and walking down the hall towards science class. I walked quickly and went into the classroom. I sat down in my seat and took out my notebooks. I started doodling until the bell pulled me out of my trance.
"And Sweet Pea, you can take the empty seat in front of Ms. Mantle." The teacher spoke.
I let the strands of my hair drop down in front of my face.
"Ms. Mantle, please raise your hand."
I raised my hand and continued to stare at my page of doodles.
Sweet Pea walked back and sat in front of me. "So, it's Ms. Mantle now?"
"Considering all the horrible things connected to the name Winchester, mass murder, fraud, identity theft. Mr. Mantle figured it would be better if they changed my last name." I glanced up at him.
"So, you've turned into a little Northside princess instead of staying with the Serpents?" Sweet Pea scoffed.
I sighed. "I'm still a Serpent, I'm just afraid to be around you. I don't want to risk being hurt again, physically or otherwise."
Sweet Pea took a deep breath and turned away from me. "I'm sorry that I hurt you. I don't know what came over me that night. I was mad about being arrested and then I started over thinking and I... I'm so sorry. I was the only person you trusted and I destroyed that."
I reached out and grabbed his hand. "I forgive you. I'm sorry about I reacted." I paused for a moment. "Let's start over. I'm Beverly Erika Malia Winchester Mantle."
"Damn, that's some name. I'm Sweet Pea." He chuckled a bit and shook my hand.
