Micke jolted forwards, sitting up and heaving heavily. He quickly let his hands lightly wander over different parts of his body, going over his chest, arms and finally head and face. He sighed in relief after finding that it was just a dream. His tense body slumped back down on the bed as he just laid there for a few seconds. He glanced over at a small clock on the table. It was almost six.
Almost... Six? Shit, I need to get out to the bar-
He got back up and stood, ruffling his hair slightly and getting it out of his eyes.
Okay. Here goes. You're fine. That was just a nightmare. Now go out there and do what you gotta do.
He walks out through the corridor, and into the bar. More lights were now on, and the room had a soft and warm light to it. Music was also playing silently from some parts of the room, but he couldn't point out exactly where. Over at the long counter Joey was cleaning glasses, talking to another girl sitting on the opposite side. Another man was walking around by the entrance, sweeping the floors.
Joey looked over at Micke, realising he had entered the room. He lit up in a smile, waving for him to come over.
"Heya, kiddo! Ready for your first shift?" He asked cheerfully as Micke sat down besides the girl. He nodded eagerly, gaining a chuckle from the man.
"Ah! Just realised you haven't met Haley yet!" He motioned over at the girl. "Haley, this is Micke. Micke, this is Haley."
He looked over at the girl. She was much shorter than him, he could already tell that. She had long, curly red hair and bright green eyes. She had freckles, and was wearing a slightly too big grey t-shirt, along with dark jeans and sneakers. She smiled at him, reaching a hand out to shake.
"Nice to meet you Micke." She said softly, as he took her hand and gently shook. He smiled back, nodding as in a way of saying hello back. She tiled her head slightly confused as to why he didn't say anything back.
"Ah! Uh, he's mute. Doesn't talk." Joey hurried to explain, and she kinda widened her eyes in realisation and going "Ahhh, well thats fine!"
"And that guy over there" He pointed behind Micke towards the man sweeping "His name's Cody. He's our janitor and handy-man."
The man he was pointing to had very short brown hair and tired blue eyes. He seemed too busy doing what he was doing to realise people were talking about him. He was wearing a buttoned shirt, which was tucked into black pants.
"Now. To get you started..."
The blackhaired man dove down behind the counter, throwing up a black apron and the name tag before reappearing again. Micke got up from his chair and looked at the stuff, picking up the tag and putting it on himself. Joey then handed him the apron, explaining how to wear it. After a bit of struggle he managed to get it tied around his waist. Then he was handed a small notepad and a pen.
"So. Your job is to go around to the tables, write down what they want, come back here and show me or Haley what they ordered, and we'll give you the items to walk back with. If you see someone raising up a hand, it means they want your attention cause they want to order. Got it?"
Micke nodded slowly, taking the pad. He then motioned with his hand a question.
"What if they ask me something?"
"Well, you just have to try to make it clear you can't talk. If any trouble stirs up, you get the attention of us, okay?"
"Okay"

As the evening went onto night, the bar was full of chatter and laughter. He hadn't even had a chance to stay still for less than a minute, and he was exhausted. And since there were so many people in one place, he was almost constantly short of breath. But now it was finally closing time, and the bar was left empty again exempt from the employees. Joey was walking around giving a round of high fives to each and everyone, bragging about how well it went and whatnot.
