"Is there a problem?" My uncle repeated looking at us.
"No nothi-" I started to say.
"Yes there is." Xerxes said cutting me off.
I gaped at him. He really knows how to make a situation worse.
"Xerxes what are y-" once again I got cut off.
"And what would it be, Alpha?" My uncle said mockingly.
"Don't tempt me Lucas, I am still your king." Xerxes growled.
"Uncle stop." I said stepping between him and Xerxes.
"What are you defending him for?" Lucas asked.
"He's my mate." I said
"And I'm family? Your blood." Lucas growled.
"I know that. But you shouldn't be mad at me for defending him when I've done the same for you countless times." I growled at him.
"Dad let it go." Jax said.
"Don't tell me what to do boy." Uncle said
"Uncle please. Xerxes is my mate and there's nothing I can do about that." I told him calmly.
"You can reject him and come back home with Jax after the ball. He is the enemy Maya." Lucas said to me angrily.
For a second I was scared he would hit me, but he's better than that.
"I-"
"Dad you can't ask her to reject her mate! You wouldn't have rejected mom if she was from Iron Gate so why force her to do so?" Jax all but yelled at him.
"Your mom isn't of Alpha blood Jaxton! I won't argue with you or her. It's him or us Maya." Lucas said.
"I shouldn't have to choose between family and my mate! You should be happy for me regardless of who my mate is!" I said with tears threatening to fill my eyes but I forced them back.
"I am happy for you! But your dad will have my head if he finds out!" Lucas yelled.
"And why do you even care what he thinks? I'm sure he'd be happy for me. And my mom and Auntie Linda! Why can't you just accept the fact that Xerxes is my mate?" I yelled back at him.
"Maya." Xerxes said behind me.
I'm sure he could feel my anger through the bond but I didn't care.
"All you've done is try to tell me what to do my entire life! You're my uncle not my dad or caretaker! I can handle myself!" I yelled.
"I've only been trying to do what's best for you!" Lucas yelled.
"And what's best for me is rejecting my mate? I don't know if you've realized but we only get one mate uncle!" I yelled back.
"Maya don't do this to us! We're family!" Lucas yelled at me.
"I'm not leaving him, I'm sorry." I said.
"Your father won't be happy with your decision." My uncle said through clenched teeth.
"To hell with what he's happy with." Xerxes growled.
"Alpha Xerxes I don't think it's a good time." Lucy whispered to him.
"Dad just let it go already! Xerxes is her mate! We can't do anything about that, whether he is our packs enemy or not! Why did we even become enemies to start with?" Jax yelled to defend me.
