Five Sages

The son of Neil Tsugimoto, Ken, was enjoying his last day of summer break indoors, watching television, reading comics and eating. Sitting on the floor next to his bed, he read a comic book while eating the occasional salted potato chip. "Ugh. Comic Books are more interesting than real life." he tossed it to the side and turned on the t.v. to see the climax of his father's match in The Lily City Magic Tournament, "And with that Neil Tsugimoto wins the match and the tournament!!" "Thank you, thank you." Neil winked at the camera. As they reviewed the match Ken admired his father's masterful control of his Ash Magic. "Now, Mr. Neil and his family moved into the city just 3 months ago and Neil is already this powerful. Please inform the children at home of how to become as masterful as you." Neil took the microphone and said, "You can't!" The reporter gasped, the crowd silenced and Ken's mouth dropped, "WHAT IS THAT OLD MAN SAYING!? " "It's physically impossible-" Neil stopped and rethought his response, "Ahem! I didn't just pick up magic like that. It took me numerous tries to not blow up in my face! But with hard work and dedication I perservered and became a true Sage! You out there can do it too! Never give in, we're wizards!" the crowd roared and clapped at his words.

Ken turned off the tv and thought to himself, "I guess it's time I choose the magic I study..." Ken was a special case when it came to magic. Most kids decide in the Academy what magic to look into, and then once they get into the Lily Institution they confirm that and go on to pursue it. Ken, however, lived outside the walls with his family, they never had enough Aether to possess true magic. "Hmm...that's a pretty basic magic....But I'll make it my own!" Ken grabbed his hoodie and ran downstairs past his mom, "I'll be back! I'm signing up for the institution!" and ran out the door. "Finally, hehe."

The Lily Institution

"Parent name?" asked the lady behind the registration desk to a girl with two bright blue twin tails, "Madoka Kurokawa." The woman gasped, "Oh dear! You're Mirelle Kurokawa, daughter of The Genius of Magic! I apologize for not recognizing you!" Mira giggled, "It's Okay! I'm nothing major." "But you are! You're apart of the next generation of The Five Sages, don't be so modest!" Mira nodded, but disagreed in her head. The Kurokawa family has always been viewed as the smartest magicians out there, Mira, however, doesn't think she can live up to her ancestors legacy. "There we are, Mirelle Kurokawa the Linguistic Mage! Thank you for confirming!" "You're welcome!" she waved goodbye and walked out the school doors where she met up with her friends, Kimoto and Kokone, "Mira!" "Hi, guys! Did you re-register already?" "Yeah, Koko confirmed being Support Mage and I am an Animal Mage. Did you take up Linguistic Magic?" "Yeah. It fits me..." the three girls walked from the tower to the park together.

"Soo, Mira, how's the boyfriend ordeal?" Koko nudged Mira with her elbow, "O-Oh right. I broke up with him." "What? Why?" "He....didn't understand my ideals. He said I was boring and I broke up with him, that's that." Mira held her head high and smiled proudly. "Oh look, there's Isaac!" "HUH!?" Mira dashed behind Koko who burst out laughing. "Seems like you aren't telling us something, Mirelle..." Kimoto looked down on her, "N-no not at all!" Her friends stared her down. "Fine...I sought self-validation a lot during the relationship and he had enough and left me..." Koko hugged Mira, "Aw, you could've just told us! " Kimoto facepalmed, "I expected that was the reason. Mira, you're honestly a great human being as well as a magician. It's a shame that you don't agree." Mira giggled a little.

The Hikari Residence, Hikari Forest

"Mom! Where's dad?" the blonde haired boy ran up to his mom, who was laying on the couch, "He's out being a Sage, do you need something?" "He said he was gonna take me to see the other young Sages like me!" "When? Last night? He was drunk, he probably doesn't remember." the woman with hip length green hair arose from the couch and rubbed her head, "Lemme get dressed, we'll go out in a sec." "Alright!" The son of Kenta Hikari, Kusuri Hikari, is a happy-go-lucky young boy who is younger than the other New Sages. A self-taught Potion Mage. He equals in abilities to the other New Sages despite his age. The Hikari family has always preferred homes in the forest than the city, so there's an entire forest inside the city just for them. Kusuri ran out the house made of rocks and noticed something on top of the house, "Ooo, it's Shinning Moss! I need this for a recipe!" he began collecting a portion of the glowing moss. "Kusuri, let's go!" "Coming!"

The both of them walked into the city near the back alleyways. "Which one are we gonna see?" Kusuri asked, bubbling with excitement. "The leader of The Black Rabbits, Frankie Crimson, daughter of Erika Crimson." "Black Rabbits? Sounds harmless." "That's the irony." she glared forward.

The Black Rabbits hideout

They walked far into a round, open area met by a bunch of hoodlums with messy hair, ripped outfits and eyes that seemed to witness true evil. "Hello. I am Shina Hikari, and this is my son, Kusuri Hikari. He's the next big Sage." A man with blue hair of multiple shades stood up and walked towards them, "And what're you here for?" his voice made Kusuri shake. "Your leader. Where is she?" "What's your business with her?..." Shina looked around seeing that the other members were ready to pounce at any moment, "We just want to talk." "And if she doesn't wanna talk?" the two of them glared each other down. Before the man could draw his weapon a voice called out, "It's alright, Jinn. I'll talk to them." the man looked one last time at Kusuri, snickered and walked off.

The two of them walked deeper into the alley where they saw a girl sitting in a throne. The walls were spray painted and the word "queen" was written above her head. "Francesca Crimson." "HEY! Don't call me that here. They don't know my mother's a sage..." she sneered at Shina. "How come?" Kusuri asked. "Huh?" "Why don't they know? Isn't it a great thing to be the child of a Sage?" "Not in the Black Rabbits, kid. This gang hates the whole Sages thing and how this town is run. How they're doing everything to protect some tree.." Shina interrupted, "You mean the tree that guarantees our safety? The Everbloom Tree? " Frankie grunted, "I just want one thing to change in my life. That's why I'm here....now why are you here?" Kusuri lit up, "To introduce myself to my future teammate! I'm Kusuri Hikari the next Sage of the Hikari family!" Frankie smirked, "Whatever kid, you're leagues below me." "Am not! I don't even go to school and I'm great at magic!" the two fussed for a while.

The Vando Residence

In a Japanese shrine, one boy walked alone through walls aligned with his ancestors. At the end was an older man, his father. He stood in front of a blade and their family crest on the wall. "Lark. Are you ready?" the son looked down, "Not yet, father." "This weapon that changes to the liking of the wielder, The Izanagi, was once used to protect this city years ago by the First Sage of the Vando's. Ever since then the Sages and their children have grown out their hair and cut it off when they become sages, to symbolize the separation of friends and leaving the past in the past." "I know, Father. But, I don't have people to let go of..." Kage pushed his sons head up, "You'll find some people." This made Lark feel warm inside, as he grew up around his father and not other kids. The thought of having people to care for was a joyous thought. "and you will distance yourself from them and be enveloped in the greater good of the clan and the city." his father said coldly and started to walk off. "Who made you cut it off?" Lark called out. Kage didn't stop walking and said, "Your mother." Lark was left alone surrounded by the images of family members around him. None of them having a different colored ponytail.
