Sloan closed the tab on her phone with a small smile on her face, she totally just got a lowkey shout out in a professional interview. Sure, it wasn't totally a shout out, she wasn't called by name and he did kind of say he wanted to sue her, but she's taking it as a shout out. Sloan's eyes gazed her surroundings and she let out a deep sigh.
Sloan is involved in the MIT Robotics Team (roboteam) and for the past two months they have been working on a planetary rover that could help with space exploration. Something along the lines of Curiosity and Opportunity, of course they'll never get to something that extreme, seeing as the combined cost of the two alone was just a little under 3 billion dollars. The roboteam doesn't have that kind of money, though, it'd be amazing if they did.
Within the next couple weeks the team will need a solid foundation to begin electronic application to get the rover moving, and as co-captain Sloan needs to be at the top of her game. Which reminded her she might not even be able to visit Timmy if he comes down to MIT. There's a lot to get done in a very small amount of time, most of the team have been in the engineering building until early in the morning in attempts to get the ball rolling. Which, now that she thinks about it, probably isn't the best idea because things normally don't go to plan when you're dead tired.
Sloan finally reaches the room where the frame for the rover ー which they've collectively named Andromeda ー is located. When she pulls open the glass door there are already quite a few people tinkering around. Although not as many as she hoped to see. She goes to MIT for christ sake, there should be at least more than seven people at a time working on this project. But before she could admire the quiet setting she was immediately greeted with complications and concerns about the rover.
"Oh gosh," she said, "what happened?" She moved the blue and grey book bag that was on her back to the ground getting ready to try and help fix problems.
"Well first of all, Owen isn't even here and he said he'd be here..." Kanda looks down at her watch, "three hours ago. Three hours, Sloan." Kanda was someone who Sloan adored, she was typically quiet, simply minding her own business, but when she needed to be she was a great leader. One of the main reasons she's the software project manager.
"Shit." Sloan whispered.
"Plus, the wire meshing on the backside of the rover is bubbling. None of us are sure why it's happening." Kanda had an iPad in her left hand worriedly looking down at a virtual model of the rover. "We were wondering if you had any ideas but we didn't want to stress you out before you got here."
"This is getting better and better isn't it?" Sloan moved across the tiled floor trying to reach Andromeda, "fuck, I need to get my book bag." Quickly turning around and jogging back over to where her book bag was. "Okay, so what's happening with the mesh?"
"When we came in today the wire mesh was begging to bubble. Here, look-" Kanda took her pen and pointed it where the wire mesh had begun to bubble on the left side. "-We're honestly stumped."
"Shit, um... we still have the scrap mesh right?" Kanda nodded at the question, "okay, can someone grab that for me? I also need a blow torch and where the FUCK is Owen!? We need him here. Now."
When Sloan was pissed she was pissed. She also typically hated asking her other teammates to do things for her. Sure, she was the co-captain but that doesn't give her a right to boss everyone around and ask them to get things for her.
