Ayesha’s POV
The next day, the news of my marriage had spread like wild fire! I took a quick shower and headed downstairs. And what do i see? My crazy dramatic friends! I was shocked to see them here at 10am! None of my three crazy friends ever woke up before 12 am! They looked so happy. It looked like they just won a lottery. They were probably here to talk to me about my marriage.
They were sitting on the lounge. My mom noticed me standing by the stairs and said “Oh Ayesha, Your friends are....” She couldn’t complete her sentence because apparently, when my friends saw me, They jumped up with excitement and dragged me to my room.
I sat down on my bed with my three friends sitting beside me. Before I could open my mouth, they all started blabbering!
“OMG Ayesha, why didn’t you tell us about your marriage plans?! You are so not a nice friend! We are disappointed!” Ruqaiya said as she rolled her eyes. Ruqaiya has been with me since kindergarden. Apparently, we happen to be neighbors too!
“ Exactly! We have to hear from other people about this!” Ameena said. She is the most dramatic person in our little gang. She is literally a chatterbox! “Well, anyways, i am so excited! All i can think of now is what I am going to wear for the wedding!” wait what?! What did she just say? Oh Allah, I haven’t even seen the guy yet and they are already talking about marriage! Before I could say anything, Raziya spoke up! Great! Just great! Whenever i want to say something, they cut me off!
“Yeah me too! But I am thinking more about food! It has to be delicious ok?” uggh Raziya! Seriously?! Well, she is a big foodie! All she can ever think about is food! Food here, Food there, food food everywhere!
“Guys, listen to-“ Yes, you guessed it right! I was cut off again! My friends are such maniacs!
“OMG and we are going to dress you up! How cool is that! You are the first one to get married amongst us friends! We are going to go shopping all together! Oh gosh like I can’t believe it!” Ameena said.
“Yes! And....-“ That was Raziya speaking and this time, I cut her off!
“THATS ENOUGH! NOW CLOSE YOUR MOUTH AND LISTEN TO ME! First of all, you all didn’t greet me because of all the excitement! So Assalamu Alaykum. Secondly, I haven’t even seen the guy yet and you are already talking about marriage! And thirdly, you guys need to calm down! You’ll are so melodramatic!”
They all replied to my salaam and then just quitely stared at me for like 10 minutes.
“Now why don’t you speak? Has the cat got your tongue?!”
“Sorry Ayesha, we were over reacting.” Razia said with a poker face.
“Yeah sorry. Anyways he’s coming to see you on Sunday right?” Ruqaiyya questioned.
“Yes, insha allah.” I replied.
“OMG and today is Thursday! I can’t wait! And we are going to dress you up ok. No arguments! That’s final!” Ameena spoke up. Sometimes she can be so bossy!
“Ok fine! Arguing with you doesn’t work out anyways! You always win” I sighed.
“Yayy!” Ameena said with a squeek and a devilish grin on her face.
We all hugged each other and hoped that everything goes well on Sunday.
Ahmed’s POV
I woke up to the beautiful sunrise of summer. Summer is my favorite season. The warmth of this sun makes me feel so comfortable and safe.
I went out of the room and was heading to bathroom when suddenly, I felt someone’s presence behind me. I turned around to look and....”Boo!” I almost fell on the ground out of astonishment! I looked up and saw Bilal laughing uncontrollably.
“What the hell dude?! You scared me to death!” I said gaspingly.
That just made him laugh harder. He opened his mouth to speak up but then burst into laughter again! Man! This dude is crazy! After 10 minutes of laughing he finally spoke up. “Did you see your face?! That was so worth it!”
“I am going to get you back for that! What are you doing here anyways?” I said
“I came to return your watch. You forgot it at my place last week.”
“Oh Jazakallah! I thought I lost it. This is my favorite watch.”
“No prob, anyways I heard your your parents are thinking of getting you married.”
“Yeah, I am going to see her and her family on Sunday.” I answered.
“Oh, i see. Anyways I have to go now. I need to get my car fixed”
“Your car is having problems again? You just got it fixed last month.” I said
“Yes, i know. I need to sell this car and buy a new one! It’s always giving me problems. This time it’s the engine problem.” He sighed, rolling his eyes. “See you later dude! Bye.”
“Assalamu alaykum Bilal!”
“Yeah sorry. Wa alaykum salaam.” And with that, he walked out.
Bilal lives 1 km away from our house. He is a great friend. He uses his dad’s car to get to work which is atleast 15 years old I guess. That explains why he always has to get his car fixed often. His mother passed away in a road accident when he was about 12 years old. He has struggled a lot to get to where he is now.
His father worked day and night to give his son a better life. Bilal has an elder sister who is married and lives in another town. His father is an asthma patient. Bilal is an accountant. Unfortunately he doesn’t get paid enough so that he can purchase a new car. Being an accountant, he is supposed to earn a good salary but that's not the case with him. I feel he is being exploited. He has spent thousands on his car. The income he earns is spent on grocery, other household expenses, car expenses and petrol. There is hardly anything left from his income after that.
I feel sorry for him. I offered to help him so many times but he says he doesn’t want to be indebted to me. I always remember him in my duas. It’s amazing how he still manages to smile and keep everyone around him happy. He is an inspiration.
