I stared at him for a minute. He sighed and stood up from the couch.
"Look Mark. I appreciate the concern. But you don't really have a place here. I don't know your strength, but your refusal to interact with the Coven makes you weak."
"You have no idea what I can do, or what I am. So I really don't think you have a right to talk to me like you are now."
He froze mid-sip and placed his glass down on the table in front of him. He slowly turned toward me. I could practically feel the anger radiating off of him. He took a step towards me so that he was directly in front of me.
"If my wife wasn't sleeping upstairs... I'd paint the walls with your blood. So do not tempt me."
I flashed my eyes at him, and he took a step back. He had a composed look on his face, but there was fear in his eyes.
"Do you really want to try and paint the walls now? Because trust me when I say it won't end well."
"The C-coven. They need to know. Now."
I nodded and picked up his glass of blood from the table. He pulled out his cell phone. I held up my hand as I took a sip.
"If you could tell them to call a mandatory importance meeting. But don't tell them that I'm the reason why. If you could please."
He nodded and stepped away to make the phone call. I placed the drink back down on the table and walked toward the photographs on top of the fireplace. They were pictures of Wade and his wife through their relationship. I shook my head. I could tell by the pictures she was human. I couldn't tell if she knew about him, however. I heard someone clear their throat behind me. I continued looking at the pictures in front of me, assuming it was Wade.
"I must assume you're Mark. You are going to be our savior."
I whipped around at the sound of a woman's voice, it was Molly, Wade's wife. My eyebrows knit themselves together at her words.
"I'm sorry?"
She smiled lightly and sat across the loveseat. She gestured to the couch and I sat lightly, anxious to hear what she meant.
"Due to my husband's distress, I can tell you are more powerful than he is. Therefore an Originem. And considering I am a powerful High Priestess who is blessed with clairvoyance, I assume you are the one who saves us all. And I mean us all."
A sad smile appeared on her face. She shook her head and pinched the bridge of her nose. Wade came back in and rushed over to her.
"What are you doing?! The doctor said bed rest. This isn't your bed."
"Oh please. I'm fine. The healer said I'd be fine within a week."
"It's been two days!"
She waved him off and placed a hand over her stomach as she reclined. I took a hard listen and heard the soft slow, much too slow, beat of a baby's heart. I stood up and waved for Wade to follow me.
"What? I'm trying to get her to relax."
"I understand why you don't want war now. She's pregnant."
"Was. That's why she needs rest, she had a miscarriage because of one of her visions."
I shook my head. There was no way she wasn't pregnant.
"No. She's still pregnant. Listen closely, it's slow, but its there."
He paused for a second, looking over at his wife. His jaw dropped and he paled. Before he got a chance to say anything, a woman burst into the room carrying a crossbow. I rushed over and stood in front of Molly, protecting her. Making sure no arrow would touch her. The woman raised her bow, aiming it at my heart, and pulled the trigger. It sunk deep into my chest. I groaned and snapped off the tail. I felt someone grab the other end and pull it through. I dropped to my knees in pain.
"I may be unkillable. But that shit still hurts. Now, wanna explain why I was shot with an arrow?!"
The woman blew her brown hair out of her eyes and lowered her weapon. Grimacing, she walked over and placed it on the couch.
"Sorry. Stew called and said there was a hostile. I didn't recognize you, so I figured."
"Nah. You're good. I probably was 'the hostile', I was really rude when I got here. However, now I'm just- why isn't this healing?"
She held up a finger for me to wait, rubbed her hands together, muttered something under her breath, and placed a hand on the wounds on the front and back of my chest. I could almost instantly feel the wounds on myself start to close.
"I add a toxicity enchantment to my arrows in case I miss the heart. And I have to remove it or you'd probably die within the next minute."
"Yeah, I doubt that. I don't, die easy."
Molly stood up from the loveseat and placed a hand on my arm.
"Thank you for attempting to save me, Mark. However, she is very powerful. I don't doubt she could cause serious damage to you."
"Ohkay. Anyways that brings me to my next question. I thought the witches were on The Hunter's side."
"Unfortunately some have. The Eastern half is reluctant to listen to Molly's vision, which she's gone through so much to have. The Hunters, however, still think most of us are still on our side. Honor, among Witches. We won't tell secrets to the Hunters. Whether we're supporting them or not. And the fact the Eastern half isn't listening is pissing me off. I mean I grew up there and now they're giving me a bad name. Makes me glad I renounced them at one point."
"You did? How does that work?"
She rolled her eyes and looked away, seemingly frustrated.
"Long story that involves me losing my powers, finding Molly, and her reteaching me. In between those bits was me freelance hunting."
I nodded, it explained the crossbow and she obviously didn't want to go into the details. Wade came back into the room after what I assume was another phone call.
"The meeting is ready. Those who couldn't physically make it here are on Skype."
I nodded and glanced around the room one more time. My eyes settled upon the crossbow lain on the arm of the couch. It had 3 letters carved into the handle of it; RRW. I glanced at the woman it belonged to.
"I never got your name. RRW?"
"Those are my sister's initials. My name's May. RoseWood. Go join your meeting."
She waved me off. I turned and opened the door to the next room. I almost instantly heard about 10 voices start yelling all at once. This was going to take a while.
