Chapter 10

Training Camp

I woke in the morning first. Grabbing a shower, I was thankful for the warmth of the water in the coolness of the morning. For some reason the hotel room was cooler than I usually had it, but Christian might have something to do with that.

I grinned and thought of the most brilliant idea. As I walked from the bathroom, now fully cleaned and dressed, I thought about all the various activities I will have Christian doing that day. He wanted to be like me, well fine, I can make that happen.

I leaned down real close to his sleeping form and again grinned. I parted my lips and sucked in a breath. "CHRISTIAN!" I said rather loudly right next to his ear. I giggled as he bolted right up and looked around frantically. When he saw me, almost doubled over in a fit of laughter, his eyes narrowed.

"What the hell was that for?" He asked rather harshly.

"Well you waned to learn the ropes. So... we can start today. Might as well seeing as how you or I don't have anything better to do."

He groaned and stood from the bed. I watched as he made his way to the bathroom at a sloth's pace. "Hurry up. We don't have all morning to wait around on your laziness." He flipped me off without turning to look at me. This made me laugh; one of my rare, real laughs.

   *************

Three hours later, after a very long shower that Christian took just to spite me, we were ready. I stood against one of the bare walls in the room with my arms spread wide. I started one of my chants that only the people form my secret community knew. I had my eyes closed tight, but felt the wall in front of me shift and break open to reveal the particular setting I chose for our little 'training session'.

I heard Christian gasp as he saw the wall move before his eyes. I smiled as I let my arms drop to my sides. "Come on." I stepped through the wall and was hit with the fresh meadow air. The grass was slightly spongy, and a light coating of dew made the whole place shine with the morning sun peaking through the trees. Not only did trees circle the green area, but so did an undetectable fence that helped keep unwanted creatures out of the way.

What Christian was going to learn today, he would never forget.

I took the black duffelbag off my shoulders and sat it on the ground next to my feet. I turned to see Christian just now walking through the small portal that i created, and look around taking in all the was here to see. Once he was fully through the portal, I waved my hand over it and watched as it closed itself, leaving no evidence that it had ever been there.

I spun around to face Christian, who was now about twenty feet away from me. "Are you ready to get this started?" I asked as he continued to look around in awe. His wide blue eyes finally settled on mine as a flash of uncertainty crossed his face. Before he could respond I stated "Give me twenty laps. There is no room to pause during training. You have to be ready at a seconds notice."

Twenty laps, forty crunches, sixty sit-ups, and ten jumping jacks later Christian stood before me, sweating and panting like a dog. I smiled down at him and handed him a practice knife. Practice knives were duller than regular knifes, but you still learned how to use them just the same. I snapped my fingers and one of those plastic dummies appeared before him.

"Now show me what you can do with a knife."

I watched as he swung and landed a clean cut across the abdominal area of the dummy. He then thrust his elbow up,  into its gut and got a stab to the thigh. I smiled knowing full well that he had potential, but I needed to step it up a notch.
