"I just want to thank you,
not for just being in my life
and for sticking around,
but for reminding me that
even broken things
can be loved".
- S. B.
Charlotte woke up to see Ed still sleeping. She decided to let him sleep for a little longer and stood up from the bed to go eat breakfast. When the blonde reached the dining room, she saw Oswald dressed in his golden and dark brown robe talking with his new maid, Olga, a middle-aged Russian woman.
"I'm also going to enroll you in an ESL program," Oswald was telling her. "You really should learn the language if you're gonna work here".
The maid didn't understand a thing he said and was going to walk out of the dining room when she saw Charlotte. The maid stared at her with an emotionless expression on her face and then walked out the door with a tray in hand.
Charlotte shook off the strange encounter and walked to sit on the right side of Oswald. "Good morning, Oswald".
"Good morning, Charlotte," Oswald said with a wide smile. He seemed to have forgotten all about the events on the previous night and was in a very good mood. "What happened? You seemed to be in a great mood this morning".
"Oh," Oswald said and Charlotte looked away from her scrambled eggs and her toast to look at him. "Nothing happened. It's just a beautiful morning today and the birds are singing. It makes me happy that's all".
"I'm glad you're feeling that happy," Charlotte smiled and continued eating her breakfast.
Later that morning, Charlotte decided to visit Ed as he was working. He sat by his desk while an assistant received instructions from him.
"And this," he said grabbing a rectangular box, "leave this outside Nicky the Nail's place. Knock twice. Light it and then run".
"Okay," the woman carefully grabbed the explosive and turned to the door. "Good morning, Miss Bateman".
Charlotte smiled politely at her. "Good morning".
As soon as the woman left, Ed stood up from his seat and walked up to Charlotte with a smile. He pecked her on the lips and eyed her curiously. "Where have you been the whole morning?"
"After eating breakfast, I went for a walk by Gotham's river," Charlotte told him. She was happy to be able to go for a walk and have some fresh air. "It's been a while since I've been able to go there. Wish you could have gone with me".
Ed frowned. "I'm so sorry that I haven't had time for us lately. It's just with this job and the Red Hood Gang-"
"It's okay," Charlotte interrupted him. "I understand".
