A/N: Hello! I'm so sorry that it took so long to update this story, but I decided to take a break from Wattpad and work on unpublished stories that I really wanted to write. I just published the first chapter of my new Jerome Valeska story called 'The Reaper' and Bruce Wayne and Oswald Cobblepot stories are still in the works and will surely be published soon. I'm just telling you all this in case you are interested. Thank you for reading, my lovelies <3

Charlotte was observing from the crowd as Oswald Cobblepot offered the Mayor's award in literature to Kyle Davis. During the whole time she had been distracted and even though she was staring in their general direction, she was thinking about something else. A book about Gotham's sewers wasn't important to her at all. She was more concerned about her conversation with Ed the other day. Since then they hadn't spoken and it was killing her.

The blonde woman looked at the back of the crowd where Ed was standing. He was staring at her intensely and she gulped. Charlotte straightened her black skirt which reached her knees and decided to approach him. He didn't take his eyes off her as she made her way towards him.

"Hey," she greeted friendly with a slight smile, but Ed's face never changed from the stone cold expression he had. His eyes bored into hers and they seemed almost lethal. "Are you okay, Ed?"

"I'm fine," he answered almost harshly. Then he turned his body and walked away from her.

She sighed profoundly, wishing she knew what to do or what to say to make it all better. She had never been on bad terms with Ed in the entire time that she knew him.

Soon it was Oswald's turn to approach Ed. Things between them had been just as bad, but Oswald was relentless and refused to let Ed get away. Charlotte observed their interaction from afar. Ed had his back turned to Oswald and stood in a tense position as he listened to him speak. Once Oswald stopped, Ed finally turned around and hugged him. The hug only lasted for a couple of seconds before Ed left Oswald standing in the middle of the library with a goofy smile on his face. Then he noticed me staring and immediately dropped his smile. With the help of his cane, he limped out of the room.

Once the three of them were back home, Charlotte was making her way to her bedroom when she was approached by Ed. He tried his best to smile at her and she was taken aback by the sudden sympathy. "I'm sorry for walking away like that. I shouldn't have been so rude to you. My apologies".

"It's okay, Ed. I understand," she replied after recovering from the initial shock. "I was the one who hurt you in the first place. I'm so sorry".

Ed nodded, accepting the apology. "I have to go now if you don't mind. I have business to tend to".

Charlotte thought Oswald must have given him a job to do and nodded in understanding. Ed smiled slightly one last time and stepped out of the hallway.

However, Oswald had not asked Ed to do any job. Ed was going for a meeting with Barbara at the Siren's Club. He opened the door which would give him access to the bar area where Barbara, Butch, and Tabitha were. After the operation Tabitha had to go through to have her hand connected back to her body, she struggled to hold a knife. Butch was trying to help her exercise her muscles, so she could be herself again in no time, but the exercises weren't going very well and Tabitha's frustration was evident.

Barbara was the first to notice Ed walk in and took away the knife Tabitha had pushed aside. However, it didn't take long for Tabitha to see him and she immediately grabbed the glass where she had been sipping on her Martini cocktail not too long ago. She hit the glass on the counter and lunged at Ed.

Butch's reaction was equally violent and he immediately took out his gun and pointed it at Ed. "Son of a bitch!"

Barbara was quick to position herself in between them and Ed. "Hear him out. Please".

Ed walked further into the club, totally unfazed by Tabitha and Butch's intimidating and murderous glares. He felt empty inside and at this point only cared about one thing. Revenge.

"I don't want to kill them," Ed started, his tone as cold as ice. "I want to destroy them. I want to take away everything that they love. I want to make them despised".

Barbara almost snorted. Of course, Penguin had his fans, they had been the reason he had become Mayor of Gotham City, but Charlotte? Well, she wasn't the most liked person. The only people she had seemed to be Oswald and Ed and that didn't seem to be going very well at the moment.

'Bad for her, good for me,' Barbara thought to herself.

Butch and Tabitha, however, were confused out of their minds. Butch was the one who spoke first. "What are you talking about?"

"Penguin and Charlotte," Barbara answered for Ed. "They killed the librarian".

"What?" Tabitha asked in shock and the anger inside of her was too much. "And you cut off my hand?!"

Ed couldn't care less about Tabitha, so he simply ignored her and looked at Barbara. "I assume you want something".

Barbara smiled as she took a step closer to Ed. She was tired of seeing men take the lead of the city and the underworld, now it was her turn to shine. "With Penguin gone, the underworld will need a new leader. I think it's time Gotham had a woman's touch".

Ed had to stop himself from snoring at the ridiculous demand. "The crime families will never follow you".

But Barbara had thought about everything already. "Well, that's where you come in. You know the families in and out. Not to mention, you're a whiz at strategy". Ed found himself smiling at the compliment. It was obvious he was a genius, but he managed to refrain himself from telling her that and let her continue. "Think about it, Ed. Your brains, their brawn, my... me. We could make quite a team".

Ed sent her a tight lip smile. "We destroy Penguin first".

"What about Charlotte?" Tabitha asked, spatting her name as if it was venom.

He thought about it for a moment. The truth was he didn't know what to do with her. It had been true that he had thought about killing them both back in the library earlier, but he managed to contain himself. He was sure he wanted to make her suffer, but at the same time, the memories of their time together kept flashing before his eyes. "Leave her to me".

"Of course," Barbara replied. "But there is one thing you need to do". She stepped aside and looked at Tabitha.

Ed knew what she was suggesting and he stepped closer to Tabitha, while Butch watched him like a hawk. Ed proceeded to ignore him and cleared his throat. "I'm sorry about your hand".

"Apology not accepted!" Tabitha snapped and once again lunged herself at Ed, only to be stopped by Barbara again.

"Well, we'll work on that," Barbara tried to keep the peace for her own good. She turned to Ed with a radiant smile. "Drinks!"
