Chapter 6:

Next morning, I woke up to find my dad eating a bowl of cereal on the dining table. I had been happily skipping down the stairs due to spending the whole day yesterday with a certain dark haired man until he had to leave at five in the evening.

"... morning dad?" I slowed down when I turned into the kitchen, taking a few steps before stopping. My smile turned upside down as my dad waved uncharacteristically at me. He was dressed formally in the white tucked-in dress shirt with black khakis

"Don't look so down London, not happy to see me?" he playfully asked.

"It's not that, sorry dad. I was just wondering what you were doing here," I grabbed my own bowl of cereal and sat down beside him.

"Can't I decide to drive my only child to school today?" I narrowed my eyes at him and uncertainty flashed through his eyes.

"What's up, dad?" I asked, cutting straight to the point.

"Nothing you need to worry about."

"Dad, I'm 18' I think I'm old and mature enough to know," I felt a little disappointed that he would keep something that seemed really important away from me.

He sighed and examined me with sad eyes, "my little girl's all grown up now, isn't she?"

I swallowed the huge lump in the throat and got up from my seat to drape an arm over his shoulder.

He shook his head, knowing that I was going to apologized and said, "I'm sorry, for not being in your life enough. You shouldn't be the one apologizing," my heart swelled up with emotion, "at least you didn't turn into one of those troubled kids who would take drugs and party until the sun came up."

I gave a shaky laugh and squeezed his shoulders before going back to my seat.

Dad and I talked for a bit before we headed out to the door so he could drive me to school. Apparently he got fired from his job so he had decided to dress up nicely to take an interview. I turned around to laugh at dad's silly joke about my shoes as I opened the door and nearly toppled over as I bumped into someone.

"Zach," I took a surprised step back as Zach rubbed his nose. He gave me an unsure smile but then paled as he looked behind me.

Taking his hand away from his nose, he held it out to my dad and grinned charmingly, "good morning sir, how are you on this fine day?"

I would be laughing now if I wasn't nervous to see how this would turn out. I hoped dad wouldn't get the wrong idea.

Dad pushed me to the side, took the step forward until he was face to face with Zach and gave him an intimidated stare.

Unexpectedly, dad's face split into a wide grin and he vigorously shook Zach's hand.

"Dad, Zach," I stupidly introduced and gestured, "Zach, dad."

"Nice to meet you Mr Peters," Zach greeted politely.

"You too, my dear boy," dad exclaimed with a twinkle in his eye, "so are you the reason my daughter here basically screamed unicorns and rainbows when she skipped down the stairs this morning?"

"Dad!" I exclaimed, as I stared at him in shock. Zach snickered which caused my blush to brighten. Dad gave me a faked-innocent look and shrugged, "what?"

"Sorry sir, but that definitely has got to be the work of someone else," Zach cheekily winked at me, "London and I are just friends, I promise."

"I wouldn't mind if she was with a fine young lad like you," my dad flattered, "I am worried, though, that she's going to stay single her entire life. Maybe you could set her up with someone, Zach."
