I woke up to my alarm going off on my phone, playing Purple Yellow Red and Blue by Portugal. The Man. I rolled over, hoping to find a sleeping lump that I could cuddle with, but my aforementioned sleeping lump, also known as Dean, was nowhere to be seen.
"Dean?" I choked out. It was Thanksgiving Day, and he wasn't in my room, which led me to believe that he was downstairs. I strolled downstairs, my hair still messy and my voice still raspy from sleep.
"Is anyone home?" There was no one was around, it seemed. A few seconds later, I heard a voice coming from the laundry room.
"In here!" Anna said.
I walked into the laundry room, scratching my head and yawning.
"Have you seen Dean?"
"No, maybe he went for a walk or something," Anna suggested. Anna folded my clothes and gave them to me, telling me to put them away in my room.
"Okay." I walked back upstairs, ready to call Dean. He couldn't miss Thanksgiving. Before I called, I stuck my clothes in their corresponding drawers.
"This is Dean's number. I'll get back to you as soon as possible," the voicemail said.
I left a message. "Really, Dean?" A smirk creeped onto my face. "You pick Thanksgiving Day to sneak out without telling me?" I clicked off the phone and went back downstairs, hoping for a breakfast of donuts like every year.
"Gabe went to go buy the donuts," Anna said while emerging from the laundry room to join me at the kitchen counter.
"Donuts! Yesss." I felt like a child again. A grown up child with the most amazing boyfriend and family in the world. "I still don't know where Dean is, though. He won't answer his phone," I continued.
"Hm, I bet he went for a walk or can't answer the phone because he's driving or something." I nodded and decided to send him a text.
You didn't answer my call and I don't know where you are. It's Thanksgiving, Dean. Please come home now.
As soon as I sent the text, I realized that I had said "home." Which it kind of was his home now.
A few minutes later, Gabe pulled into the driveway and walked in the door. "I come bearing donuts!" he shouted.
We all cheered and ate donuts, saving some for Dean.
An hour later, he still hadn't called back. I hate to say it, but for a time, I kind of forgot about him, enjoying the old family times that we were reliving.
All three of us flopped on the couch and watched the Thanksgiving Day Parade, which we luckily caught the end of.

I walked upstairs to change into regular clothes so I looked presentable during dinner while Anna started to cook the oversized turkey. My phone rang, the same song that went off this morning. The caller ID read, "Dean."
"Dean? Oh thank God you're okay," I laughed. "I thought you were, like, kidnapped or something."
"This... This isn't Dean." Someone, a girl, a young girl maybe my age was sobbing on the other line.
"Hello? Who is this and why are you calling me from Dean's phone?" I said, worry and panic and every other bad thing creeping up my spine.
"I have no excuse. It's all my fault."
"Hello?"
