There was no where to turn accept the park. I thought I would lose them there. I don't know the park that well at all and soon I was being surrounded. They were awaiting me like lions awaiting their prey.
“Well, well we finally caught you!” said Brad.
“Look Brad it was just an innocent game of basketball? Can’t cut the new kid some slack?” I said.
“Yeah man can’t you cut her some slack?” whispered his friend, but it was loud enough for me to hear.
“Shut up you idiot! She embarrassed me in front of the whole school. I’m the starting forward for our school! I’ve got college offers from some big schools and I’m sure they don’t want to hear that a girl beat a varsity basketball player at a little pickup game! Seniors don’t get beat like scrubs like her!”
“Alright, Alright I see.” I said exhaustively. “How about we say that someone paid you to lose on purpose so that we would raise a lot of money for this cause ok? I don’t want your little reputation to go down to pieces from a person you don’t even know.”
“Brad that sounds like a good plan,” said his other friend.
“You shut up too you idiot!” he exclaimed. I’m guessing that he didn’t have a big choice in friends with his snotty attitude. Knowing them, they hang out with him because he’s cool and they can put up with him.
“Look I’m late as it is can we settle this later?” I asked as I took a step toward them. Just then he shoved me to the ground.
“No! We end this now! You are going to pay for the suffering I will have to go through!”
Brad kicked me in the stomach and I moaned. One of his friends lifted me up and Brad hit me square in the jaw. It hurt, but he didn’t break it.
“I’m just warming up! Come over here and fight like a man!” Brad shouted.
“Why don’t you try it some time?” I said back, making him mad.
“Look girl, you don’t want to fight him, he can do some real damage!” said his third friend.
“Little Lady, you picked the wrong person to fight with today!” said the last.
Like I had a choice.
One of his friends next punch I easily blocked returned with a strong right hook. I settled it with a strong left. He fell to the ground with a heavy thump. My dad taught me how to defend myself and even took me to a self-defense class.
My hands were burning after I punched the guy. I guess I should have thought this out a little better. His next friend tried from behind, but I socked him...well it wasn't a place you would want to be hit if you were a boy. His other friends backed up and watched.
“Why are you fighting me? Why couldn’t you just let this go?” I asked, out of breath.
“Because you are a scrub. Scrubs like you need to be put in their place,” he said.
Sounds like Brad has done this before, and I might not be the only girl. I wonder what his girlfriends have had to suffer with when they dated him. If they had a choice to even date him.
Now it was just Brad and I. He was way stronger then me. I waited for him to strike, but I couldn't hold him off. He grabbed my arm and held on hard. I tried to fight him off, but it failed. He threw me to the ground. He then pinned my arms down. I couldn't move. Then he reached into his jacket and pulled something out. It was a knife.
"Brad...no!" I shouted
"Yes, you should at least feel in comparison what I feel," he said.
"This isn't the way!"
