It’s awkward when you have to start at a new school after a rough couple months. Now it’s going to be even awkward returning after what happened just last week. I didn’t think I would be able to come back to school today, but I’m not taking as much pain meds and I used too and my doctor said it was a go. I was really nervous as my brother was driving me to school. Brad will be there. The cops still haven’t arrested him yet. They have taken him in multiple times for questioning, along with his friends, and they haven’t made any additional arrests besides Chris.
“You ready to go back?” he asked as he made a left turn.
“I guess,” I said back.
“Whatcha mean you guess, aren’t u ready to go back again?”
“Well I just don’t want people to be swarming me with questions about everything that have happened. I most certainly do not want to run into Brad.”
“Well I’ll make sure you don’t run into him. If he bothers you one bit, I’ll make sure that he won’t come to a spitting distance to you.”
“Now Sam let’s not be violent.”
“I’m violent when I’m mad! When it comes to someone messing with you, they don’t get away with it.”
I pulled back my long brown hair into a ponytail. I gazed outside. I love fall. The smells, the changing of the leaves, apple picking, and most importantly pumpkin pie were just some of my favorites. I remember when I was little my dad would take me to the local apple picking place and we would pick apples, buy some apple cider, and have a ton of fun. We can’t do that this year.
I got so caught up in searching for memories that I forgot that we were here.
“You ready?
"Sure."
I finally got out of the car and headed to the entrance of the school. To my surprise, Chris was there waiting for me.
“You’re finally back!” he yelled.
He ran over and gave me a big hug. It was a bit embarrassing, but I was glad to see him again too. People were giving us looks. I guess they believed the other side of the story.
“If you squeeze me any harder I think my insides will pop,” I mentioned.
“Oh, sorry. I forget that you had surgery to repair your insides!” he said. He let go and we started to walk into the school.
Fortunately there wasn’t significant damage to my internal organs. The knife missed my stomach and my spleen and hit a part of my small intestine. They ended up removing a small part where the knife hit just to prevent future infection if there should be any. The doctor said I was lucky to not have any huge punctures, or it could have been life or death.
“You ready?” asks Chris.
“Somewhat I guess. I just don’t want people hovering me and asking me all these questions,” I say.
“Don’t worry they won’t.”
“Have they been asking you?”
“Like crazy. I even had a meeting with the principal, superintendent, and a guidance counselor”
“Woah that’s crazy!”
“That’s what happens when you get arrested for assault and attempted murder.”
“That’s what they charged you with?”
“They had the evidence to prove it. They didn't formally charge me, but they said those were the charges I was facing if they find enough evidence to support the charges."
