I was so excited to finally leave this sad depressing place. My brother was wheeling me out in the wheelchair, while my mom and my little brothers were waiting for me in the car. I thought it would be smooth sailing, but little did I know that there would be reporters there. I guess it was a slow news week in the area.
We moved to a town where much doesn’t happen here. So when something like this happens, reporters swarm like bees to a hive. There were reporters from newspapers, TV channels, even online news bloggers. There were about 10 of them, and they were getting overwhelming.
“Move out of the way people! She wants to get home!” shouted my brother.
They kept asking me questions, but I kept saying, “no comment”. I didn’t want to talk right now.
“Alright everybody in?” my mom asked after my brother secured me in the car.
“We are all set to go just drive.” I responded.
She started driving but she was going ridiculously slowly.
“Just lay on the horn mom! They will move! No one wants to get hit by a car,” I say.
“Will you please be quiet? I’m trying to drive.”
I shut my mouth besides, I had nothing else to say. It took us longer to just get out of the hospital parking lot then to get home.
When we finally arrived I got out of the car. I was still gingerly walking since my side was still killing me.
“Hey Drew, could you come here for a sec?” I asked my brother.
Puzzled, he came over. I leaned on him for support so I could make it up without tripping. He got the picture and helped me up. I immediately went upstairs into my room cause I was exhausted.
“There is a surprise for ya sis!” said my little brother Sammy.
“Shhh! We weren’t supposed to tell remember?” said my mom. My little bro isn’t good at keeping secrets.
When I entered my room a big banner hung across the wall above my bed that said,” Welcome Home Amy!” it was signed by my mom, brothers, Chris, and a bunch of people from school. There were some names I didn’t even know. A lot of them said, “Feel better soon” or “Get well”. Other were more wordy and personal. I was really cheered up by the sign. It was a great welcome home present for sure. Some of these people had no idea who I was.
“So do you like it?” asked my mom
“It’s great. Thanks.” I went over to give her a hug.
“Well the person you should really be thanking is your brother. It was his idea.”
“Sammy?”
“No, J.J.”
I was shocked. J.J. usually isn’t this thoughtful.
“J.J. Thought of this?” I asked?
“Trust me, I was as shocked as you when he mentioned it. He did this all himself. I am really proud.”
J.J. walked in with red in his cheeks. He looked embarrassed.
“Thanks J.J. That was really sweet,” I said to him.
He gave me the no arm hug. Typical J.J.
“I just thought it would make you feel better,” he said.
“It did. Thank you.”
“Come on honey, your sister has to rest. Besides I need help making dinner,” Said my mom.
