Once I was settled in, I decided to do a little decorating in the meantime.

After seeing my roommate's, whom I have yet to meet, side of the room so beautifully decorated in different shades of pinks, I decided to add a little color to my side.

I hung up posters. I displayed small banners that offered words of wisdom, advice, and scriptures from different poets and artists.

I put down a fuzzy dark colored carpet below my feet and hung up a dark colored curtain on the window above my bed.

I added sheets and pillows with matching pillow cases. I added pictures of my family and little notes and letters written by my friends. I hung up scarves, hats, and other pieces that reminded me of home.

I could not lie, I was excited for this adventure however I could not deny that I would miss my home.

I heard my dorm door open before a female walked into the room.

We locked eyes for a moment before she shifted her eyes toward my decor.

It did not compare to her warm, pink fuzzy area that resembled something from a movie.

Instead, it was a little darker.

She closed the door behind her before she stepped over to her side of the room before she sat down on her bed.

Should I speak?

I should say something.

What should I say?

Idiocrasy. A simple hi would do!

"Two roads diverged in the woods, and I- I took the road less traveled by."

"Huh?" I turned around, watching as she pointed toward my side of the room. "Oh."

"Interesting." She tossed a few things from her purse onto the bed. "Deep."

"I thought so too."

I acknowledged.

"Catherine Lu."

She broke the ice by introducing herself first.

"Some people call me Kitty." She shrugged. "Some goofy ass nickname they gave me."

"Alisha Norman." I nodded. "A name my parents gave me."

She snickered; which gave me confirmation that she had a sense of humor.

"What's with the darkness?" She gestured toward my side of the room.

"Well, I don't know. I guess I prefer darker colors."

"Hmm." She looked around. "Honestly, it makes our room look stupid."

Well, she was blunt.

"I love it." She admitted as she leaned against the wall, her eyes focused on our two different worlds that were suddenly blended together...

****

After a few months of being here, I got to know my roommate a little better. Seeing as how we would be spending the remainder of the year together, we decided to get to know one another.

After learning about her, I realize she was a very blunt character. With a bit of sass to go with her intellect, I could tell she was a force to be reckoned with.

Kitty was also very beautiful. With her mother's Korean side blended with her father's African American side, she was gifted with gorgeous features and a very curvy frame unlike me.

She was also 'accidentally' popular. Within a matter of days of being here, boys were already craving her attention and girls already wanted to be her friend.

According to her, she hated it.

She also had this specific attitude. Her 'I don't give a fuck what anyone think of me' attitude. Unlike me, she had strength and courage, a personality that drew in any crowd around her.

I guess that is what added to her popularity.

She was also a shopaholic however not in a way most would think. Most would think she craved those expensive pieces. Coach handbags. Michael Kors watches and clothes. Designer pieces most would be envious to have.

Not her.

She was a bargain queen who was set on finding the best deals on the best sites.

Thankfully, with looks as great as hers, she was able to turn rags into something of a fashion statement.

"So, I found this cute top." Kitty laid across the foot of her bed; her fingers scrolling over her tablet. "You need to see it."

"Oh? What site?"

"Aliexpress." She shrugged. "It's like six bucks and it's cute."

I glanced up from my notebook.

"Aren't you supposed to be doing homework?"

"Yeah, yeah." She flagged me. "I will do it soon."

"You know what's strange?" I tapped my lip with the tip of my eraser. "I never once saw you do actual work. Like do you go to class?"

"Nope." She climbed out of bed. "I sell myself to men for money."

She grabbed her coat from the coat hook.

"Now come on, let's go to the cafe. I'm hungry."

"Again?" I whined.

"Hey." She silenced me. "We spend thousands of dollars, which includes meal plan, so I expect to get and enjoy every meal."

I rolled my tired eyes.

"Now fix your glasses." She teased. "And come on."
