Dakota
The next day, I woke up around noon with a smile on my face. Wow, I needed to sleep in a day. It felt so good.
I brushed my teeth and threw some water on my face, but didn't bother with anything else. I was just gonna spend some time around the house with my mom that day.
I walked downstairs in a messy bun, my gray sweatpants and tie dye t-shirt (which was honestly way too old and way too short for me to be wearing, but I loved it too much to get rid of it), expecting to find my mother. Instead, there was a note on the kitchen counter, telling me she had gone the the grocery store.
I was about to head to the couch when I heard a knock on my front door. I wasn't sure who it was. At this point, Drake and Liam just let themselves in.
I opened the door and looked curiously. My jaw dropped when I saw the woman standing in front of me.
It was Liam's mother— Hazel Clarke. She looked so put together, in a white blouse and grey pencil skirt. Her hair was styled and makeup applied perfectly. She really was a pretty woman. Good genetics.
Then, it occurred to me what I was wearing. And I automatically wanted to pass out from embarrassment right there.
And just to make matters worse, I remembered I wasn't wearing a bra.
So, my boobs were totally hanging out and looking ridiculous in my already inappropriate shirt.
In front of my boyfriend's rich, prestigious mother.
Fucking fantastic.
"Mrs. Clarke," I said, trying to hide my embarrassment.
"Hello, Dakota." She looked at me for a moment, but didn't seem to care all that much.
I opened the door farther. "Would you like to come in?"
She nodded and followed me inside. "I'm sorry for stopping by with no notice. I just thought we may be able to talk."
"Of course," I replied. We walked into the living room. "Sorry, it's a little messy, and my clothes aren't exactly presentable."
"Oh, dear, it's fine. You're a teenage girl. Nothing out of the ordinary." She gave me a small smile as she sat on the end of our sofa.
"Can I get you anything to drink?" I asked, trying to be polite.
I did not have much respect for this woman, or her business, or her husband. But I did want to be nice. She was the woman who raised Liam. She was important to him. So, I wasn't going to try to be her enemy.
My home probably looked like dirt compared to hers. It wasn't much, but it was a nice enough house that my single, independent mother had turned into a home. That wasn't an easy feat, and I was proud of it.
Mrs. Clarke declined my offer for a beverage. "Just sit down, sweetheart. I'd like to discuss a few things."
I looked at her expectantly and she continued. "First, I would like to apologize for what occurred at dinner on Friday. My husband was out of line. We were clearly rushing yours and Liam's relationship, and getting involved where we should not have been. So, on behalf on my family, I am sorry."
I'd like to hear that apology from the dick himself, Mr. Clarke, but I left that bit out.
"I appreciate the apology, Mrs. Clarke." I said, as formally as I could. I could be polite, but I didn't have to let these people walk all over me and just grant forgiveness. "But that topic of discussion came as a surprise, and I felt like I was being judged for having my own aspirations. So, I'm sorry I said some things and left so quickly, but I felt disrespected, so I acted against it. I hope you can understand that."
