Chapter 13: Drunk
"I see you're putting that hair band to good use," I said with a chuckle to Julia. She finished tying her hair up in a ponytail and shot me a wink.
"Oh, of course! This is one good hair elastic. There's no metal bit and it's stretchy. It also fits my thick hair." Her words only made me laugh more.
"How about you, Maya? Happy with the bag of Skittles?"
"Oh, yes! Skittles are my fav! I actually have them with me, you guys want some?" She didn't wait for a reply since she was already digging into her purse to fish them out. When she grabbed them, she opened the bag and passed it around. I happily took a few in my hand and plopped them in my mouth.
A server came to our table and placed four plates in front of each of us. Instead of going out just for drinks, we decided to meet up earlier to grab some dinner as well.
"So, you're going to Dublin then?" Holly asked me. I smiled and nodded my head.
"After you guys left, my mum and I booked the flight. We are going for four days; leaving on Wednesday and returning on Sunday." In other words, I was going to arrive back in Manchester the same day as Harry.
"It's good that you're actually going or else that would have been awkward."
"Yeah, why did you lie about that anyway?" Julia asked and raised an eyebrow at me.
"You guys heard how Olivia was talking to me. She hates my guts and always makes sure that I know that. So I wanted to shut her up." I knew where the conversation was headed so I took a big gulp of my Moscow Mule since I was way too sober.
"So, tell us about Harry now," Maya said with excitement.
"Do we really want to have this conversation right now?"
"Yes," they all replied in unison.
"You kept him from us for ten years, we don't want to wait another second without hearing everything."
"Fair enough," I said with an exhale. "But first, we need to take shots."
In the middle of the table were eight tequila shots that I bought earlier in preparation for this conversation. We all grabbed a glass and clinked them together before throwing the liquid down the back of our throats. My face winced up at the taste. I took a sip of my drink and a bite of my burger before looking at them once more.
"Okay..." I took a deep breath. "So Harry and I met when we were four years old. We were in the same class and quickly we became very close friends. We did everything together and we were stuck at the hip. But then, when I was fifteen, I fell in love with him. And three years later, he went to the States for university and we stopped talking two years after that... Well, all up until Maya's wedding."
"Oh, wow," Maya said when I finished. They all either had shocked looks on their faces or a pout of pity for me.
"Yeah..." I drank more of my drink. "Any questions?" In an instant, all three of their hands raised up. I looked at Maya and nodded for her to go first.
"I guess that makes more sense as to why he posted a picture of you on Instagram."
"I guess," I shrugged. "To be honest, I didn't know he posted it. But he later told me that he posted it because he liked the picture a lot."
"Did Harry know that you loved him?" I shook my head side to side.
"I never told him. He doesn't need to know." I nodded towards Holly for her to ask a question.
