Chapter 5: Twenty-seven

I looked at the object in my hand. It was Harry's white business card that he gave me a few days ago—well, actually a week ago exact.

Maya's wedding was on Saturday. I spent all of Sunday thinking. Was I scared that he was just going to leave me and stop talking to me again? Yes. Did I forgive him for what he did? No—not yet anyway. Did I actually want him back in my life? Hell, yes. But Monday soon came and I was drowning with work. Since I never taught Year 3 before, I didn't have any lesson plans ready. So as soon as I came home after a long day of work, I had to plan the next day's lesson along with activities for Maths and Science classes, make assessments the kids will have in the future, and do some marking. And when Saturday rolled around again, I was organising my messy desk in the office of my house and spotted Harry's white business card inside the top drawer.

My thumb stroked Harry's handwriting at the top. I looked at the number for a few more seconds before grabbing my phone on my desk and unlocked it. I opened the Contacts app and added in the number Harry wrote down. Just as I pressed 'Done' in the top right corner of my screen, I got a text notification and ended up opening it instead.

Maya Preston: Ummm why did Harry, my wedding photographer, post a picture of you (from my wedding) on his instagram???

Harry did what?!

My eyes widened with shock as I stared at the text, my heart rate speeding up a bit. I read it again to make sure I wasn't imagining anything and I started to panic when I realised I read it correctly the first time. I exited the Messaging app and opened Instagram. I pressed the small magnifying glass icon on the bottom of the screen and typed in 'harrystyles' into the search bar. I clicked on his profile, noticing how his icon photo was of Harry's back as he sat in a pink bath. He had 289k followers. And sure enough, the latest picture he posted was of me.

My mouth parted as I looked at the picture. It was an extreme far shot in the garden of the mansion. I was on the bottom left side of the picture, a huge smile on my face as I looked at someone else who wasn't in the shot. The wind was blowing my wavy hair behind me, the bottom of my dress also flowing in the wind. There was the small river in the background and a wooden bridge on the right side of the shot. The lighting was bright, making all the colours pop out. The photo was so crisp. I stared at the picture longer and felt my heart warm up. I was smiling.

I took that time to look through the other pictures Harry posted since I was already on his Instagram. Harry posts a variety of different pictures from landscape, to portraits, to food, to pets, to interiors. No matter what he photographed, they always looked so good. And out of all the portrait pictures, there were three people that he posted of the most; Gemma, Anne, and a pretty brunette. My heart pinged in my chest when I realised it could be his girlfriend.

I went back to the Messaging app to my conversation with Maya. I don't know... was what I typed back. And it was the truth, I didn't know why he posted a picture of me. It could have had something to do with us being ex-best-friends but I wanted to tell Maya about that in person after her honeymoon.

I opened a new text message and made the recipient to Harry. My thumbs danced over my screen as I typed a few words, immediately erasing them right after. I wasn't sure of what to say. I knew I was overthinking it so I decided to type down what instantly came into my head.
